Right now, 5 runners are in Berlin running 42.2km for Kenya's children. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

The gun went this morning and every kilometre they cover goes towards raising money to fund a new school uniform initiative in Kenya.

For many vulnerable children, the cost of a uniform is one of the biggest barriers to simply getting through the school gate - and we're developing a sustainable way to change that by producing uniforms for disadvantaged children with our own tailors.

At the same time, we will be helping unemployed people to gain tailoring skills so they can earn a living and support their own children.

You might not be able to cheer from the roadside, but you can still get behind them.

🎓 Success for a special graduate

On 17 July, one of the 20 women in our leadership programme graduated from Kenyatta University with a BA Honours degree in Special Needs Education.

She has overcome a tough childhood and tragic events most of us can barely imagine. Through it all, she kept going, and now she holds a degree that will let her change lives in the special needs education sector.

This is what's possible when someone is given the chance to invest in themselves.

We are so proud of her, and so proud of everything she represents for the other women in our programme still on their own journeys.

A school uniform shouldn't be the reason a child doesn't get to go to school.

But for many vulnerable children in Kenya, it's a daily reality.

A uniform they can't afford stands between them and an education.

This autumn, 8 Team KCC runners are taking on the world's biggest marathons to change that: 🏃

🇩🇪 6 runners, Berlin Marathon, 27 September
🇺🇸 2 runners, Chicago Marathon, 11 October

They're already around 75% of the way to their fundraising targets, and we'll be sharing their stories over the coming months.

The money they raise funds a new uniform initiative: our own tailors producing uniforms for disadvantaged children, while unemployed adults gain tailoring skills to earn a living and support their own families.

On 16th June, Kujali Children's Centre had the honour of hosting this year's Day of the African Child, bringing together children, families, community members and government representatives for a day that meant so much to everyone involved.

This day traces back to 1976, when thousands of school children in Soweto marched for their right to quality education and were met with terrible violence.

Their courage is why this day exists, and why we keep showing up for children's rights every year since.

This year's theme was Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa.

It's a theme that matters deeply here, especially for children living in local slums

Clean water, safe toilets and good hygiene aren't small things. They're the foundation for a child's health, dignity, education and chance to thrive.

Kujali was proud to host this year's celebration and to welcome children and staff from across Thika West Sub County.

It was also a chance to share where Kujali is headed: our move from residential care towards family and community based care, so that children can grow up supported within their own families and communities.

Thank you to everyone who came together to make the day possible, and to every child whose courage in 1976 still inspires this work today.

An additional 500 school children in Kenya will now receive a hot meal every single day! 🇰🇪

The Kenyan Ministry of Education has officially given the green light for our School Feeding Programme to operate in Kiambu County.

This is a huge moment.

Over the next two years, we’ll be working within Kiambu County to make sure more children get the nutritious meals they need to thrive in school.
