AND.... that's ok. Let us please stop attacking one another for our choices.

If you have not lived their life, felt their experiences, seen their story, heard their fears, understood their perspective, dreamed their dreams and carried their baby in their body... you cannot and should not be shaming, suggesting, telling or fearmongering her into or out of any decisions.

There is no risk free option. Fact.

It is up to each individual to decide which set of risks feels least risky for them.

For some that is birthing in hospital, for some it is at a birth center, for others its at home or perhaps freebirth. Maybe even not choosing pregnancy and childbirth at all because that in itself feels too risky.

Less talking. More listening. Less judging, more learning. Less shaming, more understanding.

We dont all get this right all the time and Ill hold my hands up, nuance can be tricky, but its important to keep trying to understand why people make choices that you might not rather than shut them down and disregard story that brought them to that choice.

Be more interested. Ask questions with the intention of hearing the answe rather than trying to catch them out or prove that "Im right and you are wrong".

Pregnant - and quietly hoping for a birth that feels calm, powerful and intuitive?

If the stories you’ve heard don’t sit right with you… this might be for you.

I’m Kez, mum of two and birth educator & hypnobirthing practitioner supporting families across Oxfordshire, Berkshire & Buckinghamshire (in person + online).

I help expectant parents feel confident, steady and deeply informed, so they can meet birth without fear. I specialise in homebirth but support families whatever their choices, wherever they birth.

This isn’t “textbook hypnobirthing”.

My approach is honest, family-centred, practical and deeply personal, shaped by years of supporting families and my own very different birth experiences.

✨ Clients often describe feeling calmer, more prepared, and starting parenthood with less recovery and more trust in themselves.

If you’re curious, message me or explore more below 💜

There is no risk free option. If you are making choices that feel logical and safe for you then how can it possibly be "brave". It is informed, educated, considered, dissected and planned. Brave implies taking a risk, hoping for the best and possibly even attempting something against the odds.

Logical birth prep is none of that. What I often see is "brave" people coming to me "hoping" and "wishing" and then when they have explored all fears, gain a better understanding of birth physiology and the true workings of the maternity system, they then are able to make logical choices, choices based on evidence, fact, statistics or even just good ol'gut instinct.

It no longer surprises me that the majority of today's clients go on to choose home birth, and plenty of whom have freebirthed on the day. Free from bravery. Full of knowing.

Don't be brave. It doesn't serve you. It makes you vulnerable.

Your body does not tend to make mistakes.

Labour slowing or stopping upon arrival at the hospital is not a "problem" to be fixed, it is your body protecting your baby from danger.

Intelligent and an expected physiological response to a change of environment during labour.

The trouble of course is that this clever process is neither respected nor understood and so the treatment is to chemically induce a forced labour. Often more painful with higher risks and a higher chance of further complications and interventions.

Whats really needed when your body is communicating with you by slowing or stopping labour?

One of the many many MANY things we will talk about when considering your birth choices.

Expecting a baby sprong/summer 2026? Now is the time to book with me and benefit from my 1:1 support during the months ahead.

Dm me for details.

If you hand your birth over to the system, you get a system-led birth.
If you hand your decisions to strangers, you get strangers’ priorities.
If you ignore preparation, you get whatever unfolds when physiology is disrupted by said strangers and system.

Empowerment isn’t gifted by a midwife, a doctor, or a policy. Not even by birth workers like me. Anyone claiming to "empower you" literally cannot, because the only person that can do the empowering is you.

It comes from you knowing exactly what you’re choosing, why you’re choosing it, and what you refuse to hand over.

Responsibility is not pressure.
It’s power.

Empowerment only happens when you choose to participate in your birth.

It's starts with the choices you are making right now.

Whether you are pre-conception or 38 weeks.

Do not underestimate the influence your choices will have on your entire pregnancy, birth and post-partum.

No responsibility = no control, no power.

Don't be afraid or the fear. It's keeping you small and "safe" AND preventing you from experiencing birth as a truly joyful and transformational event.

No one else can empower you. Are you ready to power up?

Birth trauma is NOT a "normal" part of birth. It is common. It is common because the things that typically cause trauma are a common part of birth in hospitals and often when inviting maternity services into your birth space.

Lack of understanding.
Lack of respect for the process and for the individual human being "cared" for.
Lack of compassion.
Lack of skill.
Lack of kindness.
Lack of openness and sharing of information.
Lack of space, time, awareness, quiet, privacy.
Lack of ALL things that SUPPORT the physiological unfolding of birth.

And then... you get blamed. Your body. Your baby. For not conforming. For not fitting in the tiny arbitrary boxes created mostly by men on mostly no evidence.

Now you know what does cause IATROGENIC trauma (clue in the name)... making choices to reduce the likelihood of you and your baby being on the recieving end of it is much easier right?!

Know the difference between common and normal.
Nail that, then you can start to prepare differently.
Nail that, then you are much more likely to birth differently.

I was asked "What's the biggest lie we have been told when it comes to birth"

My mind went to 1000 places all at once but the biggest of all is this:

Birth is unpredictable and our bodies unreliable.

It is no mistake or accident that these lies have been packaged, repeated and delivered so often that is sounds like the truth.

From growing up as a girl and being shamed for our normal (very powerful) bodily functions to the stories we hear from every single source about birth and the chaos it IS.

Recognise the porky pies. Recognise who is telling them and why. Follow the money. Open you eyes. Consider seeking a much better path for yourself and your baby.
