Yesterday afternoon involved sunshine, good company, plenty of chatting, a coffee and cake stop… and somehow 7.1 miles of walking! ☀️🚶‍♀️

Running a tutoring business alongside teaching and family life means there is always something I could be doing - emails to answer, lessons to plan, resources to create, admin to tackle… the list never ends really!

But I’m learning that switching off and making time for the things that fill your cup is important too. And, unsurprisingly, I came home feeling much more refreshed and ready to tackle everything again.

We talk a lot at Emma Lianne Tutoring about helping children find confidence, manage pressure and develop healthy attitudes towards learning - and I think sometimes we adults need the same reminder too!!

Rest isn’t wasted time. 💙

💙 Sometimes the best learning doesn’t happen at a desk.

Today, whilst I took a little time out for a walk, the kids stayed with my mum… and her gorgeous puppy, Alfie. 🐶

When I got back, I was greeted by three huge smiles and these incredible paintings. They couldn’t wait to show me what they’d created, each one inspired by Alfie.

Seeing how proud they were reminded me of something really important…

Children don’t always need to be “working” to be learning.

This afternoon they were developing creativity, fine motor skills, observation, communication, confidence and emotional wellbeing-all whilst having fun with a puppy who has very quickly become our little therapy dog. ❤️

As a teacher, it’s easy to focus on academic progress. But as a mum, I’m constantly reminded that happy, emotionally secure children are the ones who are best able to learn.

Sometimes the greatest lessons come from slowing down, making memories and spending time with those who make us feel calm, safe and inspired (even if they are four-legged friends! 🐾).

I think Alfie deserves an A⭐ for today’s lesson… and judging by these masterpieces, I’d say the kids thoroughly enjoyed it too. 🥰

Three hours. One determined girl. One very colourful chicken. ❤️🧱🐔

Faith has spent the best part of three hours building Hei Hei from Moana completely by herself, and I have to say… I’m pretty impressed! 😍

She absolutely loves Moana and LEGO, so this was the perfect combination. Watching her concentrate, problem-solve, persevere through the tricky bits and beam with pride at the end reminded me that sometimes the best kind of therapy doesn’t look like therapy at all.

No screens. No rushing. Just focus, creativity and the satisfaction of creating something amazing, one brick at a time.

I think Hei Hei turned out pretty fantastic! 🌺💙💛
