I am thrilled to announce that I am once again accepting students!!

My name is Sophie Golby, I am a one to one music tutor specialising in Performance Craft and Pop / Musical Theatre Repertoire. I teach Singing, Piano, Songwriting and Acting / Audition Coaching to students of all ages.

I am also super excited to introduce you to Jack Littler. Jack and I perform together as romanceindurangoduo and he is a fabulous Pop Guitar and Bass teacher. He also offers recording and mixing workshops if you fancy getting in the studio!

⭐️STAR OF THE WEEK⭐️

Here is Heidi!! 🎶🎵🤩

Heidi is my oldest student, having started having lessons with me when she was only 6 years old! When she first started, we had singing lessons and piano lessons, but over time we started to focus primarily on singing. A few months ago, Heidi mentioned that she would like to start accompanying herself, by playing piano or perhaps guitar. We started incorporating both instruments into our lessons, and pretty soon Heidi was getting confident on both piano and guitar, whilst singing at the same time!!

Heidi practises so so so hard!! Her mum often messages me and sends me little videos of Heidi learning a new song, or teaching herself some new chord shapes, and each week she comes to lesson with something new to show me that she’s been working on: sometimes on piano, sometimes on guitar… As well as continuing to practice and prepare for her grade 4 pop vocals exam!

This week she came to lesson with the song ‘Me’, by Taylor Swift & Brendon Urie, and so we arranged this little duet during our lesson! This is the first time we have both played and sung together, and it was fabulous🤩

With the lessons I offer, it is never just the 30 minutes or 1 hour a week of lesson time. I am regularly in touch with all of my students or their parents, to check in on practice, confirm next lesson details, or to see if they are struggling with any set homework. I am constantly looking for material for my students, to make sure I keep their lessons interesting and engaging.

⭐️STAR OF THE WEEK⭐️

It’s time for me to introduce Amy🎶🎵🤩

Amy is my newest student, having started taking lessons with me a few weeks before the summer holidays. She LOVES playing piano, whether that be technical work, pieces from her exam book, learning from tutorials on YouTube, or creating her own compositions!

Each week I set Amy a new compositional target, and each week she impresses me with her new piece. She creates her compositions in different ways, sometimes taking inspiration from a classical piece of music she’s heard, or sometimes using a title as inspiration. We then discuss her compositional target for the week ahead, and continue the lesson with her exam work: technical work and pieces.

This piece is called ‘Dark Forest’, and Amy created it all by herself. We were focusing on dynamics, staccato notes, and pedal use. Well done Amy!!

I am a big advocate of providing not only piano lessons, but music lessons. I believe it is so important to learn to play WITH the piano, not just to learn to play the piano. Students access the instrument in different ways, and I cater to each student’s learning style. Each lesson is bespoke and tailored to the individual.

⭐️STAR OF THE WEEK⭐️

It’s time for me to introduce Elsie🤩

Elsie has been having singing lessons with me for a few months, along with her older sister, Ivy. Elsie loves singing all things musical theatre!! She and her sister are also dancers, and often compete in local competitions with their dance school.

Elsie has been working really hard on her vocal piece for her latest comp, and a couple of weeks ago she won not only her class, but also won overall first place for her vocal performance!! What a superstar⭐️

Here she is with her medal and trophy. Elsie and her sister are both super hardworking girls, and are both looking forward to taking their first musical theatre singing exams with me in the winter term.

⭐️STAR OF THE WEEK⭐️

I have some catching up to do!

I have been incredibly busy this spring / summer term, with lots of new students starting lessons with me, discovering their passions and furthering musical talents.

So I have a few ‘stars of the week’ from the past month that I feel deserve to have their achievements celebrated!

First up is Broedy.

Broedy has been having piano lessons with me for a few months now, and he loves his sticker reward chart in his book. He loves completing extra bonus practice challenges for extra stickers, and works hard towards his goals.

When he reached 10 stickers in his chart, I gave him a little treat for working so hard! So here he is with his big smile, his stickers, and his Freddo.

Well done Broedy!! Keep up the good work and enjoy lots of practice over the summer holidays!
