A huge congratulations to all the young people who have received their GCSE results today. I’ve seen some outstanding results from my tutees today! 👏

Whatever your results, be proud of yourselves. If you got the grades you were hoping for, well done! If things didn’t quite go to plan, remember that one set of results does not define you, your intelligence or your future.

Most people know my story of trying 6 times to pass the Maths GCSE. I managed to get five D’s ( in old money!) before I achieved a C (and I’m still not actually sure HOW I got it because my Maths knowledge is still chronic! 😆🤦🏻‍♀️). I suppose that I’m proof that you get to where you’re meant to be if you just keep trying.

Perhaps the most important thing to remember is this: today is the start of your journey, not the end of it.
Some people will head straight to sixth form. Others will choose college, an apprenticeship, work, or something completely different. Some will know exactly what they want to do, while others will change their minds approximately 47 times before Christmas! 😂

Whatever you do, do it with confidence… and with a smile. 😊

If your child is following the AQA or Eduqas English Literature course, they will be familiar with some of these texts.

Parents often ask how they can help their children with their English studies.

Conversation is one of the best ways to develop understanding. Parents don’t need to know all the terminology – simply asking “Why?” can encourage deeper thinking.

For example:
“Why do you think Shakespeare makes Macbeth do that?”

Follow up with:
“What makes you think that?”

This encourages pupils to support their ideas with evidence.

It’s the final English exam tomorrow, which means I’ll be saying farewell to my GCSE pupils.

Kids, it really has been a pleasure!

Parents, thank you for being so welcoming when I’ve come into your homes (and for plying me with coffee!).

One of the reasons I love tutoring so much is seeing the progress my pupils make week by week. Watching them grow in confidence and develop their English skills has been incredibly rewarding.

I wish you all the very best for tomorrow and for whatever comes next. ❤️
