Parents often ask how they can help their children with their English studies.

Conversation is one of the best ways to develop understanding. Parents don’t need to know all the terminology – simply asking “Why?” can encourage deeper thinking.

For example:
“Why do you think Shakespeare makes Macbeth do that?”

Follow up with:
“What makes you think that?”

This encourages pupils to support their ideas with evidence.

GCSE English Language & Literature tuition available Monday–Wednesday, 10am–2pm.

Sessions are available for home-educated and home-schooled pupils, with personalised support tailored to each student’s needs and ability.

It’s the final English exam tomorrow, which means I’ll be saying farewell to my GCSE pupils.
