Hi, everyone; we hope you've enjoyed our "meet the leaders" posts over the last few days. We’re so excited for tomorrow’s launch event! It will be a little bit different to a usual Tuesday meet, so here’s a little bit about what you can expect:
* Meeting in the car park of the duck pond entrance to Thornes Park by 18:30
* We'll get everybody checked in, let's take an all-important group photo or two, then - those that want to - a quick warm-up and off we go for 1, 2 or 3 loops of our lovely park, whichever direction you fancy (route link in the comments).
Note: The running this week is completely optional; if you'd prefer to just do the social aspect, that's fine too; at least one of us will be around the benches at all times.
* After the Run, we'll gather for a bit of a social with some delicious cake and goodies (you may want to bring some spare water/drink); plus, an opportunity to have a friendly chat with the run leaders, learn more about FORDY RUNS, their ethos, the other groups, how to become affiliated etc, and we can answer any questions you may have.
* *WIN* Everybody who attends and books via the app will be entered into a FREE raffle to win a personalised FORDYS running t-shirt or vest in the colour of your choice—we’ll draw the winner on the night. *WIN*
*We will wrap up by 8pm, hopefully, all with full bellies and excited for future FORDY meets!

My selfie skills are sub par, but I did plot a great route today. 15 of us turned up for a refreshing drizzly start, we picked up number 16 en route. There were lots of happy faces smashing the 8mile distance.
Massive well done to Laura on her longest ever run 🎉.
A mind blowing shout out to Wayne who ran a whopping 32 miles yesterday and still joined us today for another 8 🤯
Can't wait to see you all for our launch on Tuesday.

Over the next few days, we’ll be introducing our four run leaders… Starting with Keira Yates 🏃🏻♀️
Hello! I’m Keira and live in Durkar. I originally hail from South Wales and spent 15 years living in London before moving to Wakefield, my husband’s home city, in 2017.
I’ve been running for just under four years, having completed a Settee to 3k course with Running Fit Wakefield six weeks after my youngest son was born. A keen cyclist, I always said I could bike but never run – how wrong I was! Once I learned that slowing down was fundamental to enjoyment and that consistency was key, I completed my first 10K within a couple of months of finishing the course.
Since then I’ve ran six marathons, have another in October and I’ve signed up for an ultra next year. I’ve been an English Athletics-qualified run leader for three years and I get so much joy from the social side of running. I’ve met some of my closest friends through my meets and love being part of the Wakefield running community - we’re a super friendly and inclusive bunch!
Running is crucial to my mental health and has helped me lose weight and become much more confident. If you’ve ever been told you’re too big to run, I’m proof that’s utter rubbish as I was a size 22 when I started. I’m really passionate about helping people like me find a love of running and exercise – honestly, if I can do it, anyone can!
Most likely to say: “This is definitely the last hill!” 30 seconds later… “Oops, forgot about this one, sorry!”
Least likely to say: “No thank you, I have no fear of missing out and I definitely won’t be signing up to **INSERT RIDICULOUS RACE HERE**.”
Favourite trainers: Saucony Endorphin Speed 3
Favourite race: Cardiff Half Marathon
Favourite distance: 10 miles
Listens to while running: BBC 6 Music or any BBC podcast (I may be biased towards my workplace 😂)

FORDY RUNS Running Club is coming to Wakefield! We're thrilled to announce the launch of our new satellite group, bringing our friendly and supportive running community to your area.
Run by Kris, Keira, Sam, and Holly, we can't wait to meet you all and start running together. We’ll share more about us very soon!
