9 Weeks. 4 Pieces. Incredible Progress. ✍️
One of the most rewarding parts of tutoring is being able to look back and see just how far a student has come.
These writing samples were completed by one of my Year 4 students during their 11+ tuition journey between April and June.
Over just 9 weeks, we have worked on:
⭐ Descriptive writing
⭐ Narrative writing
⭐ Persuasive writing
⭐ Paragraph structure
⭐ Developing evidence and explanations
⭐ Considering alternative viewpoints
⭐ Building confidence in independent writing
What I love most is seeing how this student’s writing develops from creating descriptive character profiles and narratives to organising persuasive arguments with greater structure and confidence.
Progress doesn’t happen overnight. It happens through regular practice, targeted feedback and building skills step by step.
Whether your child is preparing for the 11+, working towards grammar school entrance exams or simply looking to improve their English skills and confidence, small improvements each week can lead to significant progress over time.
I provide online 11+ English tuition, creative writing, comprehension, SPaG and verbal reasoning support for students across Wakefield, West Yorkshire and throughout the UK.
📩 If you’re looking for 11+ tuition for a Year 4 or Year 5 student, I’d be happy to help.

✍️ Three weeks. Three pieces. Amazing progress.
One of the most rewarding parts of being an 11+ tutor is seeing confidence grow week by week.
These are the first three persuasive writing tasks completed by one of my Year 4 11+ students over just three weeks of tuition.
Swipe through to see the journey:
⭐ Week 1 – Beginning to structure opinions
⭐ Week 2 – Using rhetorical questions and evidence
⭐ Week 3 – Developing arguments with greater confidence
What makes this progress so impressive isn’t that the writing is perfect. It’s that this student is already learning how to organise ideas, justify opinions and use persuasive techniques effectively at such a young age.
The 11+ journey isn’t about producing a perfect piece of writing overnight. It’s about building skills, confidence and independence one lesson at a time.
Year 4 is a fantastic time to begin preparing for the 11+, giving children the opportunity to develop strong English skills before the pressure of entrance exams arrives.

📺 Spotted… a few weeks later! 👀🏉
A few weeks ago, we enjoyed a fantastic day at the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium. It was an incredible occasion with thousands of rugby league fans coming together to celebrate the sport.
Fast forward to this week, and a friend has just sent me this screenshot after spotting us on the TV coverage! 🤣📺
It’s funny how some of the best memories from big events keep appearing long after the day itself. One minute you’re enjoying the atmosphere, and the next you’re discovering you’ve made an unexpected appearance on national television!
What I love about rugby league is the sense of community. Fans from clubs across the country come together to support their teams, share experiences and create lasting memories.
It reminds me of education too. Success is often a team effort, with students, parents, teachers and tutors all working together towards a common goal.
A brilliant reminder of a fantastic day at Wembley and a surprise TV appearance I didn’t know I’d made! 😂
Have you ever been spotted on TV at a sporting event or live broadcast? Let me know in the comments! ⬇️
