Wakefield Trinity.
Old Trafford.
Super League Grand Final day.

I can’t quite believe I’m actually writing that! 😭

We’ve arrived at Old Trafford in Manchester and we’re currently soaking up the atmosphere in the Fan Zone before the big game.

And I am SO excited. ❤️🤍💙

After everything we’ve experienced following Wakefield Trinity this season, to be here today watching them play in the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford feels incredibly special.

The Wakefield fans are arriving, the red, white and blue is everywhere and the atmosphere is already building.

We’ve talked about this day for so long.

We’ve looked forward to it.

We’ve dared to dream.

And now we’re actually here. 🥹🏉

Whatever happens when that whistle blows, I’m going to enjoy every second of today.

But obviously…

I booked these Super League Grand Final tickets on 11 October 2025… and tomorrow we’ll be watching WAKEFIELD TRINITY at Old Trafford! ❤️🤍💙🏉

They were Lou’s birthday present, and we were always going to go, whoever reached the final. But when you book, there’s always that little dream that your own team might be there… 🥹

We loved our trip to the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley earlier this year, even without Wakefield playing. But heading to Manchester tomorrow to cheer on Trinity in the 2026 Super League Grand Final? I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present for Lou!

Almost a year after booking, that dream has become reality. Dare to dream, Wakefield! ❤️🤍💙

I’m getting SO excited! If you see Lou and me at Old Trafford tomorrow, come and say hi — it would be lovely to meet you.

☀️ A hidden little gem in Walton, Wakefield that you might not know about…

Have you discovered Mel’s Little Sunshine Cafe inside Walton Library yet?

We’ve actually been twice this week 😂 and it’s such a lovely little find.

Mel also owns and runs Lucky House Chinese Takeaway on Agbrigg Road, Wakefield, and she is genuinely one of the loveliest, friendliest people. ❤️

At Mel’s Little Sunshine Cafe you’ll find everything from breakfasts and sandwiches to cakes, brownies and scones — and there are even some Chinese dishes on the menu too. 🥪🍳🍰🥡

The food we’ve had has been really lovely, there’s plenty to choose from and it has that friendly, welcoming feel that makes you want to go back… which apparently we did, considering we managed two visits in one week! 😂

And because it’s tucked away inside Walton Library, I suspect there are plenty of people around Wakefield who don’t even realise it’s there.

Definitely one of those lovely little local businesses worth knowing about. ☀️

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed supporting Lincoln with his 11+ preparation, but reading what Gemma has written about the relationship we’ve built and the difference our sessions have made to his confidence means such a lot.

The new Gloucestershire 11+ test details are here for children aiming to start grammar school in September 2028. 📚

The seven Gloucestershire grammar schools are moving from GL Assessment to Future Stories Community Enterprise (FSCE). The newly published familiarisation guide names three papers:

📝 Adventure: English and maths, with multiple-choice answers
📝 Beacon: English and maths, with short written answers
📝 Compass: Multiple-choice questions that may draw on the wider primary curriculum, including subjects such as science, history, geography, computing, music, PE and art

The guidance also confirms no non-verbal reasoning. The test is scheduled for Saturday 3 July 2027, when these children will be in Year 5. Registration opens at noon on 8 February 2027 and closes at noon on 19 March 2027.

If your child is preparing for the Gloucestershire 11+, download the official FAQs and familiarisation guides from a Gloucestershire grammar school website. FSCE says question types and content can change each year, so the guides help families understand the format without predicting the questions.

📚 GCSE Maths mocks coming up in October or November?

Doing more and more GCSE Maths past papers isn’t always the best place to start.

For both GCSE Maths Foundation and Higher, students need the underlying mathematical knowledge before they can confidently tackle those longer, multi-step reasoning and problem-solving questions.

I’ve already seen this with some of my own GCSE students this term. They’re being given complex questions at school or for homework, but they haven’t yet been taught — or fully secured — all the knowledge they need to answer them.

So my approach is:

Knowledge first ➡️ fill the gaps ➡️ practise the skills ➡️ apply them to exam questions ➡️ build confidence.

I want a student to look at a challenging GCSE Maths question and think “I know where to start”, rather than immediately deciding they can’t do it.

And with Year 11 mocks approaching, this can be particularly important for students whose mock performance may be used by their school when considering Foundation or Higher tier entry.

🏉❤️🤍💙 FROM WAKEFIELD TO WIGAN… AND NOW WE’RE GOING TO OLD TRAFFORD!

What. A. Day.

This is probably my favourite little collection of videos from Saturday because it captures the whole experience of following Wakefield Trinity to Wigan for that incredible Super League play-off semi-final.

It started on Sugar Lane in Wakefield, with coach after coach lined up ready to take Trinity fans across to Wigan.

We were Coach 11! 🚌❤️🤍💙

Then came the first glimpse of The Brick Community Stadium as we walked towards the ground, the huge queues inside, the atmosphere building… and finally, the rugby. 🏉

And what rugby it was.

Wigan Warriors 6–33 Wakefield Trinity.

Watching that scoreboard change. Seeing the gap getting bigger. Realising that this was actually happening.

There may even have been a few Wigan supporters deciding they’d seen enough before the final whistle… 👀😂

And then it became official:

WAKEFIELD TRINITY WERE GOING TO OLD TRAFFORD! 🏟️❤️🤍💙

From travelling over from Wakefield surrounded by Trinity supporters to leaving Wigan knowing we’d just watched the club reach its first-ever Super League Grand Final — this is one of those days I’m going to remember for a very long time.

And considering it was also my birthday, I couldn’t really have asked for a better present! 🎂😂

Now there’s just one more journey to make…
