We are pleased to be working alongside Barnsley Council on plans to create more specialist primary school places for children with SEND in Barnsley.

This investment will help to ensure more children can access high-quality specialist education within their own communities. As demand for specialist places continues to grow, it is important that we work together to develop sustainable local solutions that meet the needs of children and their families.

At Waterton Academy Trust, we bring extensive experience in specialist education, and we are committed to ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Barnsley Council to create a provision that will have a lasting positive impact for children and their families.

Cabinet Members have approved plans to create 40 specialist primary school places for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The investment will help more children get the right support closer to home, with the new school expected to open in September 2028.

Last week, colleagues from across our Trust took part in our Aspiring Deputy Headteacher Programme with Lauren Nicoll and Lauren Penny.

The session focused on managing change, self-awareness and leading others, providing opportunities for reflection and discussion.

Last week, our Schools Support Team joined together for our INSET Day at Normanton Junior Academy. We had the absolute privilege of hearing the Normanton Choir perform a song, they were so brave and brilliant! 🙌
