Cool seeking adventures for the win!!

Today - Dalby forest under a cool canopy of trees 21° versus home 32°

Tuesday - Bridlington beach⛱️, beach tents and sandcastles and a pirate ship boat ride to boot 🛥 18.5° versus 33° at home

Its been a busy fun week even with all the anxiety as a practitioner of keeping everyone "sun-safe", hyrated and trying to keep cool and comfortable ⛱️

I absolutely love my job!❤️

And the best part is that after the pirate ship boat ride, one little one said "Sara that has made me happy" and seeing everyone smiling and relaxed and having so much fun despite the heat trying to boil our bones 🤣

Hurrah for adventures in lower temperatures ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Home remedies such as turmeric, toothpaste, eggs or ice are still commonly used to treat burns. But these can actually do more harm than good.

Anything greasy traps the heat under the greasy layer and prevents heat from escaping.

Plus, the nurse will need to remove the home remedy to treat the burn. This can be painful and distressing for a child, especially if the remedy was oily or sticky.

Instead, remember COOL, CALL, COVER
COOL the burn for 20 minutes under cool (not cold) or lukewarm running water.
CALL for help for any burn bigger than a 50p coin.
COVER the burn loosely with cling film or a clean, non-fluffy dressing or cloth.

Dear friends and followers of Park View Childminding and early years consultancy

Bare with me, it's kind of a long post.

For too long now, I have held back from joining the ongoing discussion with my colleagues about something that is incredibly important to us and to everyone in the childcare sector.

There continues to be a huge elephant in the room, one that the government and the department for education are not being clear regarding - (all whilst childcare providers are scapegoated and vilified across the sector)

REGISTERED CHILDCARE NUMBERS ARE IN HUGE DECLINE -

Here are some important statistics that were published by GOV themselves:-

This section contains the underlying data in an accessible table format for all figures.

Data for Figure 1: Childcare providers registered with Ofsted as at 31 August 2025, by provider type

Number of providers on 31 August 2025 and the Change since 31 August 2024 :-

* Number of Childminders 2025 25,000 a loss of -1,000 from the previous year.

* Number of Home childcarers 2025 7,230 a loss of -530 from the previous year

* Number of Childcare on domestic premises 210 a loss of -2 from the previous year

**Parental choice is dwindling at an alarming rate for childcare!**
A total loss last year of registered childcare provision of 1532 SETTINGS in total, last year alone!

But in real terms this equates to actual losses of approximately 5000 thousand chlldcare places!
That is a lot of children!
And this will only increase year on year.

When the 2026 results come in at the end of the year, be prepared to see the steepest drop in registered providers in any single year since 2015.

It is getting harder for all early years settings to weather the storm.

It is concerning that even settings on my doorstep have closed by 2/3
In the last 2 years alone!

Parents across the UK, I am sure, will vouch for the fact, that securing places with with their primary choice of setting is now fiercely competetive.
Also it is often a cause of high anxiety as they plan to return to work after having a baby.

Imagine this getting even harder year on year, it truly is a scary thought for families who need childcare to allow them to work.

I urge friends and followers to look at the bigger picture and research the crazy level of financial stress and control that is being forced on childcare providers and truly look at the alarming rate of decline in providers too - I am concerned for the sector and I am also concerned for families who need childcare.

Park View Childminding will fight tooth and nail to weather this storm as a team!!
This is because being early years educators and our passion and commitment to the sector is what makes us who we are as people, not just as professionals.
It has been our life for a combined duration of 67 years! - 67 YEARS OF DEDICATION TO OUR PROFESSION, SUPPORTING FAMILIES AND SUPPORTING CHILDREN!

As you can see from the years working in this sector, early years education has been our complete lifes work -
Which just demonstrates how very important our roles and our amazing setting are to us.

We ask everyone to see the bigger picture and the harm that is being inflicted on our sector. Early years provision is being systematically fragmented piece by piece and the fallout for every single stakeholder, from the professionals to the families and the little ones in childcare settings, could be immense.

What will this really mean for families year on year?
When settings are so few that returning to work may be so much harder than anyone could have ever imagined.

Please support your childminders and your early years settings and stand with us.
Research, understand, share -

This message needs to be heard
