I’m struggling to understand the logic here…

The government has now decided that my pickup is no longer classed as a commercial vehicle for tax purposes — effectively treating it more like a car.

But at the same time, the local council won’t let me use the tip because it’s apparently a commercial vehicle.

So which is it?

➡️ For HM Revenue & Customs – it’s a car
➡️ For the council – it’s a commercial vehicle

Same pickup. Two completely different rulebooks.

This is exactly the kind of contradiction that businesses and tradespeople are dealing with daily. You end up getting the worst of both worlds — higher tax implications, while still being restricted like you’re running a commercial vehicle.

It’s not about trying to bend the rules — it’s about wanting clear, consistent guidance.

At the minute, it feels like:
👉 When it benefits them, it’s a car
👉 When it restricts you, it’s a van

Surely we need some alignment here?
