What a lovely, autumnal walk weโ€™ve had this morning, around our local green.

We explored all of natures beautiful objects, including apples that had fallen from the tree, flowers, grass and leaves.

We spoke about the different colours and textures and just had a wonderful time in the fresh air ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿงก

I almost forgot about this cute moment that I captured on Thursday! ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅน

J came home from school, and as always the children were so excited to see her.

She gave them all a hug and then said โ€œcome on guys itโ€™s time for us to read a story togetherโ€ and then sat down with a book, with the children huddled round her and read them The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

Sheโ€™s so wonderful with them โค๏ธ

I just LOVE making new resources for our setting!
Bamboo pots from Home Bargains with homemade colour dots on them, to match our grapat rainbow coins to ๐Ÿฅฐ
The green didnโ€™t come out too well so needs re-doing, but the children have loved using them today and matching all the correct colours ๐Ÿ”ต๐ŸŸ ๐Ÿ”ด๐ŸŸข

Some of the biggest battles with children start over the smallest things.

โ€œPut your shoes on.โ€
โ€œNo.โ€
โ€œItโ€™s time for bed.โ€
โ€œNo.โ€
โ€œPlease get dressed.โ€
โ€œNo!โ€

It can feel like they are arguing about everything. But often, they are really fighting for a bit of control.

The boundary can stay the same, while you give a small choice inside it:

โ€œShoes first or coat first?โ€
โ€œRed top or blue top?โ€
โ€œDo you want to walk to the gate or hold my hand?โ€
โ€œTeeth first or pyjamas first?โ€

The task still happens. You are not giving in. You are helping your child feel heard without turning every routine into a standoff.

Keep the choices simple. Only offer options you can genuinely accept. Then pause and give them a moment to decide.

It will not fix every hard moment, and some days will still be messy. But a little choice can lower the temperature for everyone.
