Richard Tice’s comments about so-called “over-diagnosis” of children with SEND are not only wrong, they are dangerous. There is no crisis of over-diagnosis in this country — there is a crisis of children being missed, misunderstood, and left without help for far too long.
Parents are not fighting for assessments because it’s fashionable. They are fighting because their children are struggling and the system is failing them. To suggest that families are part of the problem is deeply insulting to thousands of parents who have had to battle every step of the way to get even the most basic support.
As someone with dyslexia and ADHD, I know exactly how life-changing the right diagnosis and help can be. It gives children confidence, understanding, and a sense of belonging. Denying that — or belittling it — does real harm.
Reform UK’s approach would take our country backwards. It risks a return to a time when children were punished for behaviours they could not control, written off as “difficult”, or pushed out of classrooms instead of being supported. That is not the future our children deserve.
We need early screening, proper teacher training, fair funding, and compassion — not rhetoric that stokes division and undermines vulnerable children.
I will keep fighting for a system that lifts children up, recognises their strengths, and gives every young person the chance to thrive. Reform’s vision does the opposite.

In October 2024, we received funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to support The Little Hub Wakefield CIC.
This funding has been spent in an incredibly positive and impactful way, creating tangible transformation for our service users and allowing us to deliver life-changing community experiences that wouldn’t otherwise have been possible.
The project has:
✅ Reached hundreds of families (you are welcome to request to see the full breakdown in the impact report I have now submitted to The National Lottery)
✅ Delivered various supportive groups over the course of the year, to support mothers, babies and children, and neurodivergent women.
✅ Created new friendships, increased confidence, supported local female-run businesses , improved mental and emotional wellbeing, and raised community connection
✅ Built a long-term framework for ongoing community growth.
The report outlines how every pound has been used to make a measurable difference- and why we believe extending this funding will allow us to deepen and expand this vital work.
What we’ve been able to offer as part of this project thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund:
⭐ Mum and Baby groups accessed by over 60 families
⭐ Coping with ADHD six week group, accessed by 85 women
⭐Two rounds of a Financial Literacy six week program, accessed by 87 women
⭐ Speech and Language Therapist- led five week course accessed by seven toddlers and their families.
⭐ Coping with Stress six week course, accessed by eight women.
⭐ Coping with ADHD & strategies for organisation five week course, accessed by 53 women
⭐ Creative Journalling for emotional and mental health, five week course, accessed by five women.
⭐ Buggy Walk & Talk group, accessed by upwards of 20 women over the course of the year.
⭐ Developmental Milestones Course for ten parents run by a Paediatric Osteopath
⭐ Free venue hire for a weekly Mum support group, over the course of six months.
⭐ Free venue hire for a regular women’s circle, over the course of six months.
⭐ Free venue hire for a free birth preparation class for five expectant mums and partners.
I am so grateful for the opportunities that this funding has provided, and I am hopeful we’ll be able to expand on the foundations we have built over the last twelve months.
