Our Level 1 Health and Social Care students have been using playdough to learn about and create different organs! 🫀 🫁 🧠
Last week, our Level 2 students have taken part in a practical first aid course. They have learnt the practical skills needed to save lives, as well as learning how to create a risk assessment in a hospital setting or care home ward.
Our Level 2 Health and Social Care students have been creating diverse and inclusive weekly menus for a care home, thinking about culture, allergies and intolerances.

May-Hem is back for 2024! Wednesday 29th May 10am-2pm at Castleford College
We have lots of free activities on the day from both our CU learning destinations and college tutors.
Activities include crafts, rugby games, interactive blaze pods, gymnastics skills, learning to play drums and ukuleles, mini tennis and so much more.
Learning destinations attending include; Castleford Heritage Trust, Castleford Library, Girlguiding Whitwood Division, Hemsworth Dragons ARLFC Youth & Junior Page, Phoenix Martial Arts, Rothwell Gymnastics, RSPB Fairburn Ings and St Aidan's, Studio 64, The Hepworth Wakefield, Wakefield City Cheerleaders, Wakefield Museum & Castles and Wakefield School of Tennis.

Today our Level 1 learners visited Wakefield Library and Museum. They explored the children’s area to find stories appropriate for young children and brainstormed some ideas to create their own children’s books!
Today marks 12 years of Wakefield Children's University and what an incredible journey it's been! We want to thank everyone who's joined us over the last decade and can't wait for what the future holds, starting with a very exciting announcement coming next week!
As an attendance incentive for improvements in attendance, we have recognised this by having a breakfast morning with the Level 1 learners for first part of the morning, focusing on socialising and more focussed talks on what the year ahead looks like for them in terms of progression and what they want to achieve from their studies.
Our Level 1 learners have been learning about mental health as part of children's mental health week. They have been focussing on having a voice taking part in class debates as well as recognising and creating posters of what matters to them.

Level 3 Health and Social Care and T Level Health students at Wakefield College had a talk from representatives from NHS Mid Yorkshire Trust about the core values of working in the NHS, and also progression opportunities with the university of Bradford for the Bradford school of Nursing.
Our Level 2 Childcare learners have been creating games to support children's literacy and numeracy in settings.
The learners then discussed how these games could be adapted to meet all children's needs.
The T level Education and Early Years learners were visited by Leeds Trinity University, where they took part in a session to explore Primary Education degrees. Many of the learners are aspiring to become primary teachers and participated well within discussions on child development theory and how children can learn maths.

Level 3 Childcare and T level health have spent the past 4 weeks exploring a forest school environment.

T-Level Eduaction and Early Years, year 2 participated in an outdoor learning session inspired by the Forest School approach, led by a FS leader. This outdoor session supported knowledge and skills within Performance Outcome 1, skills such as collaboration, active listening, problem solving and imagination were demonstrated by learners. Lots of fun had by many, including Sneezy the dragon! 🐉Education
The first year T-Levels for Education and Early Years have been learning about a range of occupations within the sector (Element 1: Wider Context). They have listened intently to a childminder guest speaker and asked questions to extend their knowledge and understanding of the role and responsibilities. They have also been working collaboratively to create their own collage occupations and used digital skills to create occupation road maps for their own career aspirations. They will be continuing their learning during further guest speakers that include a nanny, an early years educator and a senior children's library officer.
