There are so many different things available to parents for all sorts of support that may be needed during the long, wonderful, enjoyable, hard... job of being a parent.
We are always here to listen, advice, highlight options etc, but sometimes that's not what you want or need. The following options can be accessed independently. Check them out at your leisure.
Wakefield Family First Hubs offer a range of support such as:
A fortnightly sensory stay and play group for children with additional needs: The session at Pomfret Hub (Pontefract) is every other Tuesday 10am until 12pm. However, there are other groups running at the different Hubs. The contact number for the Pomfret Hub is 01977 722644.
WASP workshop for parents and carers of children of any age: This is a 2-hour workshop looking at Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). Follow-up drop-in sessions are available on sleep, sensory information and Lego Therapy. You can call 01924 683890 for more information.
A Parent’s Toolkit, Raising confident, happy, resilient children: Tripple P Stepping Stones for parents with children aged 0-12 years with SEND. This is an 8-week programme covering positive parenting, promoting children’s development, managing misbehaviour, family survival tips and support to look at ways of putting strategies into place.
Family Voice: for parents and carers with or without their children aged 0-19 years. Meet other parents in a supportive and safe space, gain advice on all aspects of family life and the challenges of raising children.
Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC): For parents with children aged 2-12 years. An 8-week course that helps you learn practical communication skills for everyday life to help bring up confident, happy and supported children. It will provide you with positive strategies to take away to help manage your children’s behaviour and how to better understand and support your children’s feelings.
Wakefield Parent/Carer forum: An independent parent carer forum supporting families of children with special educational needs and/or disability, aged 0-25 years old, living in the Wakefield district. The forum is led by a group of local SEND parents who are looking forward to listening to, and representing the views of parents, carers, children and young people now and in the future.
