A round up of the last few weeks and a calm, slow paced forest school session today ❤️😍🌳🌲
With it being National bird week last week, we have made bird feeders, took them to the woods, hung them on the tree and watched for the birds. We love listening to them in the trees and trying to spot where they are. We also carried on our learning by using feathers to make bird pictures.
It’s also been lovely welcoming our newest Little One who has settled in amazingly.

Just a reminder for everyone. So much seems to be doing the rounds at the moment and it ends up being a vicious circle when children come in to the setting poorly. I don’t want to send children home and it’s extremely rare I do, so please keep children home if they are unwell. It just passes on to the other children/families ❤️ These things can’t be helped, but we can certainly try and prevent the spread x

Finished the working week painting ice and snow pictures, using foil for different textures and sounds 🥶 we also used the hammers to smash and break the ice in the tuff trays, some parts were difficult so we really had to use our muscles and strength to free the objects. Snow stories have been our reading focus this week.
I won’t lie I’m already ready for warmer temperatures 🤣🥴 Have a great weekend everyone ❤️

We are all cozy at the end of the day and have put frozen on for the last half hour (very appropriate for the last few days)❄️
We have enjoyed experimenting with the snow, ice and colours today, feeling the different textures without our gloves on. making soups and potions 🧊💙💚💛❤️ our book of choice the last 2 days has been ‘Little Snowflake’

It’s nice to be getting back into some routine

End of the working week done, gifts and home made crafts have been given out (we hope you like them) It’s been a fun last week filled with parties and lots of play, before the Christmas chaos🎄
Not what we had planned with more car trouble but fun nonetheless!
What a year it’s been, lots of learning and lovely memories made - not just for the children but for me too ❤️ Also gaining my Outstanding Ofsted grade to end the year on a high 🙌🏼
Thank you so much to all my parents for your gifts and cards, I have well and truly been spoilt - it’s lovely to be appreciated ❤️🥰
Have a fantastic Christmas and new year with your loved ones and I’ll see you all on the 6th January 🤩
This childminder is officially off duty and done for 2024 🎉🥰⭐️

Lots of invitations to play yesterday and some of our favourite activities over the last few weeks - we had a great time with our friends Little Peaches-Hygge In The Early Years Accredited Setting. Thank you for having us. ❤️

These type of activities are perfect for fine and gross motor skills improvement. Patting, pinching, rolling, squeezing, pulling, scooping and pouring.

Engaging children in regular fine motor skill activities will help to build up the strength in their small muscles in their hands and fingers, develop co-ordination skills and support their ability to be able to manipulate objects no matter how big or small. Without these, children will struggle later to be able to pick up a pencil, write, dress and undress themselves, use zippers, scissors, brush their teeth etc. strengthening our fine and gross motor skills are vital in the early years ⭐️ we’ve also had fun today doing some gluing and sticking at our Tots group 🙌🏼🤩

Lots of festive sensory play the last two days, with added loose parts. The children have loved these activities and we may just do these again, over the next few days with some of the children who missed out. Opening up all our senses 👀 🙌🏼 👂🏽👃🏼❤️

Adding loose parts to our play can build on children’s learning through:

⭐️Increasing physical activity

⭐️Enhancing cognitive skills

⭐️Increasing focus and engagement

⭐️Boosting natural curiosity

⭐️Boosts imagination

⭐️Increasing fine motor skills

⭐️Developing higher levels of critical thinking and problem solving and many more benefits.

We have started our Christmas crafts this week. We had a trip to the Garden centre to buy the rest of what we needed. The children enjoyed pushing the trollies themselves and filling the basket. We loved having a look around the Christmas areas. As you can see they were very excited 😬🎄❤️
We have also built dens in the woods and had a visit to our childminder group. A little bit of everything this week. We hope all the children who aren’t too well are feeling better for next week. We will carry on our Christmas activities ❤️‍🩹

***Sickness Policy***

This is just a reminder of the sickness policy.
This is absolutely not aimed at anyone in particular but just as so much is doing the rounds I thought best to remind.

Please be vigilant and keep children home if they are unwell, are not able to join in with play and activities or if your child needs medication to get through the day then they need to stay home too. If your child has a high temperature, even if they seem well they need to stay home, a temperature means your child is fighting an infection. Runny noses/mild coughs are ok as long as your child is not unwell and doesn’t have a temperature. If they have chesty/hard or hoarse ‘constant’ cough then again they need to stay home for a couple of days to try and prevent spread. We cannot keep away from general coughs and colds but we can use our judgment and if your child isn’t 100% and needing calpol to get through the day they need to be at home. Sickness and diarrhoea - please keep home for 48 hours AFTER the last episode, these are the same polices as school/nursery settings. As I’m sure most of you are aware so much is doing the rounds, it’s important to stick to the guidelines we are given from Ofsted/Department for Health / Education regarding infectious diseases and try minimise the spread of these as much as possible. If your child is ill and you are unsure please give me a call or text first. These guidelines and my policies are in place to protect all of us, the poor children end up on a conveyor belt with constant illnesses at this time of year and sometimes this can be prevented just by keeping a child home for a day or 2. It also helps to prevent closure in the event myself or my family become unwell. I can only do so much to try and prevent the spread by regular daily cleaning and wiping down with antibacterial sprays. Thank you 😊
Also please promote good hygiene at home (I’m sure everyone does anyway) as the children are so good at washing hands in the setting. Washing reguarly, before and after meals, when we come in from outdoor play, after the toilet etc. I try and teach the children to sneeze or cough in to their elbows. Children learn fast and create habits from such a young age. Even as young as they are, they already know that washing hands regularly prevents germs spreading 🦠

Well we’ve been busy over the last couple of weeks (including being without a car for most of that😖🤦🏻‍♀️). Enjoying the outdoors and all it has to offer, hot chocolates to keep us warm, searching for different plants and berries, baking, decorating the tree, exploring the ice. Green sparkly water play with added sprouts. Sensory play at its best. It’s been lovely getting in to the festive season 🎄❤️

Following on from our snow and ice play last week 🥶

This is why we have been able to spend the day outside at golden acre park. Because the children are wrapped up and dressed correctly for the weather all layered up. Even though is has only been couple of degrees today 🥶💙We had no moans of it being cold, they were running around exploring and enjoying themselves and they were lovely and toasty under the layers of clothes.

If children aren’t dressed accordingly for the weather it spoils their play. Being outdoors increases their vitamin D intake, ignites creativity, builds social skills, builds on fine and gross motor skills through physical development, increases their knowledge of the world around them plus many more benefits. It also also reduces the risk and spread of viruses 🦠

The weather's been so good to us over the last few months, but I think the time has come now where we have to admit that the cold snap is finally upon us, we've even got snow forecast this week! BUT! No matter the weather, we will continue to make our trips to forest school and getting out in the fresh air where we can! With this in mind, please make sure your little ones are dressed for the weather so we can continue to enjoy the great outdoors! 🌨️👢🥶🧤

It may be cold but we embrace it 🥶 a nice walk after tots group 🥰

Evening all.
As the cold weather starts setting in please can I remind you to dress children accordingly. Please, please layer them up. As you know, we are outdoors all the time regardless of the weather. When it’s cold we may shorten our time outside but we are also on the school run twice a day. Vest, t shirt then jumpers and warms coats, if children have thin leggings on, it’s a good idea to put some tights on too or wear warmer trousers instead like joggers etc. I can remove layers if needed when and if we are indoors but I can’t add them back if they don’t have them on in the first place. I know I also have spare clothes for some but I don’t have time to re dress children or add layers on a morning. As you can appreciate, mornings are hectic and busy and we are straight out on the school run.
I have puddle suits for when we need them that will go under the children’s coats.
Also Hats and gloves please 🙏🏼 Thank you x

We had a wander around the garden centre yesterday smelling the flowers, touching the plants gently to feel the different textures, we then had a nice walk in the autumn sunshine.

Did you know that when children play with the fallen leaves they learn a variety of skills such as -

⭐️ Language and literacy development by talking about the things they see and do.

⭐️ Fine and gross motor skills, by picking up leaves, throwing them in the air, tearing them, jumping in them etc.

⭐️ Sensory development through touching the different textures of leaves, listening to the different sounds they make, smelling and seeing them.

⭐️ Understanding concepts such as colours, shapes and sizes.

⭐️ Express themselves as they have space and freedom outside to do this.
Plus many more 😀❤️🍁🍂

Yesterday we had taken our coats off to get in the car after a lovely walk when the boys found ‘those spinny things’ 🤣 on the floor!
I love how much joy they find in the simplest things 💙🥰😍
