Who will find the hidden treat inside rice pudding today? In Finland an almond is hidden inside rice pudding and the finder is bestowed with good luck for the coming year! ( we subbed the almond for fruit due to allergens )

Yesterday we shared a lovely story loaned to us by one of our lovely mummies all the way from the Shetland isles. The snawman was a bit hit with the children loving hearing the different words and sounds in new language. We followed this by looking at the animation of the snowman and talking about what happens when snow gets too warm!

Today we are hunkering down getting cosy and celebrating the Icelandic tradition of Jolabokaflod. Traditionally celebrated on Christmas Eve. Jolabokaflod translates into "Christmas Book Flood."

This week we are celebrating the traditions of Christmas around the world. Today we learned from one of our wonderful
Families, the tradition of how in the Czech Republic, apples are chopped to discover if we will have good or bad luck over the coming year. A cross means bad luck and a star good luck!

Welcome to Freerange Childminding
As someone who you will potentially trust to ensure the health and welfare of your child. I am sure you will want to know more about us as a family, our background, our ethics and how we can work with you looking after your little ones.
We opened after recognising a need in our area for childcare with a difference. We believe children thrive in a home environment, and we spend a lot of our time outdoors in nature where children are supported and encouraged to learn through play and explore the world around them.
I have over 20 years’ experience working in the early year’s sector, and managing day nurseries and holds a BA Hons in early childhood education and Early Years Professional status.
My husband is my registered assistant and we both hold paediatric first aid, safeguarding and Food hygiene qualifications and are fully insured.
We have 2 young Daughters who are 8 and 10 and have vast experience in getting messy and jumping in muddy puddles and are eager to share their experiences!
We use all of our lower floor for our childcare which leads to a large secure garden for the children to enjoy. As a registered setting, our statutory framework is the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
We take inspiration from both Steiner Waldorf, and Montessori and we are currently in the process of becoming an accredited Curiosity approach setting. Our resources are carefully chosen to spark your child`s imagination and encourage open ended play and curiosity. We use lots of natural materials and try and limit plastic where possible in all areas of our setting.
