Our seven amazing BTEC Home Cooking Skills students took on the East end🥯 of London for an unforgettable food experience before the end of our summer term☀️
We hopped on the train from Wadhurst and mastered our travel skills on a busy bus to Liverpool Street 🚉
This "Walk, Eat, Talk, Eat" specialised food tour was the perfect end-of-term July treat to celebrate all the hard work undertaken this academic year.
Here is a taste of our interesting culinary and cultural adventure, which was just for our small college group...
🇱🇰 Spitalfields Treats: We started at the historic market. We tasted an authentic, flavourful Sri Lankan dish Kothu roti.
🇬🇭 Ghanian Chocolate: We met a brilliant Ghanaian chocolatier. We learned how cocoa beans grow. Then, we indulged in rich chocolate truffles and hot chocolate.
🇧🇩🇮🇳Brick Lane Spices: We explored the history of Bangladeshi and Indian immigrants. We dived into crispy samosas and pakoras.
🥯 Historic Bagels: We queued up at one of the oldest, most famous bagel shops on Brick Lane for a classic bite of either smoked salmon and cream cheese or salted beef..
Graffiti & Slums: We walked through colourful streets packed with world-famous street art. We finished by exploring where the old Victorian slums used to be to learn the deep history of the area.
🍩A Sweet Ending: Our fantastic tour guide kept us entertained, active and amazed all day. He even handed out special gourmet doughnuts at the end, which went down an absolute treat!
Through plenty of walking, talking and eating our students connected food directly to diverse cultures, history, and community. Everyone had a fantastic day, and we could not be prouder of this group!
