Why barefoot?
Being barefoot is so incredibly important for development for so many reasons.
Having time without shoes (particularly for our youngest children) supports healthy, natural development of children’s feet and stance. Children’s feet should be able to spread naturally (like the paw of a bear!) as they place it on a surface and shoes can often encase the foot and not allow for this natural spread of the toes and sole. When we remove shoes children are able to feel surfaces, notice what is slippery, rough, smooth, cold, wet and more and this develops their ability to adapt, problem solve, plan and manoeuvre!
Barefoot grounding or earthing, standing on natural surfaces allows us to reconnect with the earths energy, reducing stress and improving overall wellbeing. The earth carries a mild electrical charge and when bare skin touches it, electrons may flow into your body, acting as natural antioxidants.
Modern life can sometimes disconnect us from these natural connections but it is so important that we make time and value its benefits as they are incredible!
Jump in, feet first!
