The Little Acorns have been showing lots of interest in all of the daffodils springing up both in the garden and local area. With one of our families also being from Wales and celebrating St David’s day on Tuesday, we’ve been having lots of fun creating lots of our own daffodils 🌼

We’ve linked our learning looking at: colours, sizes (bigger smaller taller shorter), talked about Spring and St David’s day, and looked at where Wales is on a map 🗺

⭐️Sand Play⭐️

The Little Acorns have had lots of fun playing in the sand; squishing and squashing it with their hands (and feet) making shapes, using the characters to create stories, matching the treasures to the picture cards, scooping, pouring and tipping sand between the different containers, and playing hide and seek burying the shells and dolphins for their friends to find!

There is so much learning happening here in the little sandy spot, thanks to the many benefits of sand play.

Who can’t wait for a lovely cuppa and catch up with friends? ☕️💕🧁

The Little Acorns enjoyed this lovely invitation to play on Friday, they absolutely adored it, and there was so much awe and wonder, as they communicated and navigated their way through all of the different resources. Taking it in turns to wear the different outfits and pouring each other “tea”. We also were able to squeeze in mathematics with some number recognition, counting and sharing!

The lovely suitcase and most of the beautiful items where sources and put together by the amazing Suitcase Treasure Bundles with a few extras added in 🥰

✨Fireworks ✨

The Little Acorns have been enjoying lots of firework themed activities with Bonfire Night last week and Diwali!

👻 Halloween 🎃

Last Friday the Little Acorns enjoyed a Halloween party!

We gave Winnie the witch a lovely new hair do 🧙‍♀️
Then investigated one of our pumpkins cutting, poking and scooping, the Little Acorns discovered that some of the seeds had started to germinated, so they have now been planted to hopefully harvest next year!

We also had a pumpkin hunt, pumpkin bowling and a Halloween feast complete with chocolate apples! 🍏

🌳Acorns to Oaks Childcare is open 48 weeks a year which means we get to have fun even in the school holidays!🌳

Here’s a little snippet of what the Little Acorns got up to last week in half term.

🕷Spiders🕷

The Little Acorns have been working on those fine motor and creative skills with our spider theme.

Including lots of moving and grooving with the old classic Incy Wincy using cardboard tubes as drain pipes.

Are you a spider fan?

I must admit I’m learning to love them more, with the curiosity of the Little Acorns wanting to look, hold and hunt for them! 😬

Today we visited Crockford Bridge Farm, to look at the variety of pumpkins and squashes they have harvested, and found some great puddles too!

The Little Acorns enjoyed looking at all the colours, shapes and sizes of pumpkins/squash available. We gathered some of our favourites, brought them home and sorted them in to size and weight order, before creating our own pumpkin and vegetable shop.

Keep your eyes peeled for more fun pumpkin activities over the next couple of weeks.

The Little Acorns enjoyed making soup yesterday, taking turns to peel and measure the ingredients and discuss the changes in the vegetables from hard to soft and squidgy.

Blending it all up was lots of fun (and noisy)!
We all shared the soup for lunch with the Little Acorns serving their own. Cooking always provides a great opportunity for communication and language, as well as talking about healthy food choices.

A lovely warm soup, for a rainy day, packed full of veg... Yum!

Hedgehogs 🦔

The Little Acorns have enjoyed sharing stories together about hedgehogs, including 'It was a cold, dark night' and 'Say Hi to Hedgehogs' where we have learned all about hedgehogs spikes, hoglets, the perfect hedgehog house, and how they hibernate in winter.

Here are a few of our hedgehog activities. We have also ordered hedgehogs in size order, and practiced walking on all fours and curling up in a ball like hedgehogs too
