Yesterday, Reception started their fine motor skills morning activities!

Every morning as children enter they can choose from a variety of fun resources with the aim of building up the strength in their fingers.

Fine motor skills are very important for key life skills such as getting dressed and writing... and also lots of fun!

Reception Class read a book called 'Our Class is a family'.

We discussed how we need to work as a team and how this links to our school rules of READY, RESPECTFUL, SAFE.

The class were introduced to our 'curious cabinet' where unusual objects often appear! Gene eagerly offered to investigate! He soon discovered a strange tube.

We sat in a circle and held hands whilst holding the tube. When we worked as a team and all connected our hands the tube lit up and made some very funny noises! We took turns to pass it around being respectful of one another and of the object.

Scribble monsters!

Last week, Reception read a story called "I'm not a scribble!" all about monsters made of scribbles!

After reading the story, the children were eager to go and design their own scribble monster.

We modelled what steps we needed to create our monsters! First we decided on a colour or colours. Then we made our scribbles. Next we glued on googly eyes, first choosing if we wanted 1, 2 or 3 eyes and making sure we counted them out. After that we added additional details such as legs, arms, a mouth, eyebrows, etc.. Once our monsters were complete, we talked about our monsters and shared what they looked like or what they enjoyed.

It was a very popular mark making activity and one that added joy to picking up a pencil!

This week, Reception have been enjoying sharing their 'All About Me' books that they made over the Summer!

The children were very excited to share them with their class and we have added them to our classroom library.

We discussed how we must ask if we can look at someone else's special book and take care to look after it and treat it with respect.

Children are welcome to bring their books in at anytime to share.

Thank you to everyone who was able to help with their child's all about me books over the summer!
