Learning comes to life when pupils can explore big ideas through hands-on experiences.
Our KS1 Forest School learners recently became climate scientists for the afternoon, investigating the effects of global warming through an outdoor experiment!
Working in small teams, the children created their own landscapes complete with buildings and wildlife before collecting water from the stream and adding ice to represent melting glaciers and ice caps. As the ice melted, they carefully observed and measured rising water levels, watching first-hand how changes to our environment can affect habitats, wildlife and communities.
More than just a science lesson, this outdoor learning experience encouraged curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
At Abbotsholme, we believe some of the most memorable learning happens beyond the classroom.

Yesterday, in the sunshine, our Year 8 pupils headed out to the farm to begin planting pumpkin seeds and seedlings, having already prepared the ground ready for this year's crop.
It's one small part of what makes Abbotsholme's Carousel Programme so distinctive. While many young people learn about food production from a textbook, our pupils experience it first-hand - gaining an understanding of farming, sustainability and regenerative practices by getting their hands dirty and seeing the process unfold over time.
Just as importantly, they develop skills that simply can't be replaced by AI: teamwork, communication, resilience, problem-solving and a genuine connection to the natural world.
We look forward to seeing the results come harvest time this autumn! ๐

Why is Performing Arts part of our Carousel Programme?
Because confidence is a skill that deserves to be practised.
Standing on a stage, acting, dancing and singing challenges pupils to step outside their comfort zone, take risks and learn to express themselves. The confidence built under the spotlight doesnโt stay thereโฆ
It becomes the confidence to answer a question in class, share an idea in a group discussion, speak in an assembly, interview for a prefect position, lead a team, or perform in front of an audience.
Beyond school, it becomes the confidence to walk into a university interview, introduce yourself at a networking event, contribute in meetings, speak to new people, present to colleagues, apply for opportunities, and take on challenges that might otherwise feel intimidating.
Not every pupil will go on to pursue performing arts professionally, but every pupil will benefit from learning how to communicate, collaborate and believe in themselves.
That is why Performing Arts sits proudly alongside Agriculture, Outdoor Education and Equestrian within our Carousel Programme - helping pupils develop the confidence, resilience and life skills that will serve them long after they leave Abbotsholme.

When people think about independent schools, they often think they know what to expect.
At Abbotsholme, we like to do things a little differently.
A working farm. Outdoor learning. Small class sizes. Creative opportunities. Elite sport. Strong pastoral care. A school where every child is truly known.
These are the distinctive opportunities that help young people discover who they are and who they could become.
And perhaps most importantly? Abbotsholme is more accessible than many families think.
Curious about Abbotsholme? We'd love to hear from you.

We are delighted to launch Abbotsholme Theatre Academy: Triple Threat this summer.
Designed for young performers aged 11โ17, this exciting Musical Theatre Workshop will bring together singing, acting and dance in a fun, supportive and energetic environment.
The idea has grown from something our Head of Performing Arts, Mr Lewis, is incredibly passionate about. Having seen the wealth of talented young people across our local area, and recognising the lack of a dedicated theatre and stage school nearby, he wanted to create an opportunity for aspiring performers to develop their skills, build confidence and experience high-quality musical theatre training closer to home.
Whether you're already a seasoned performer or simply love being on stage, Triple Threat is all about encouraging creativity, developing performance skills and having fun with like-minded young people.
