Come along to Sessions House tonight for our final Voice of Wales Speakers Club meeting in August.

Three great speeches with speakers at different stages in their public speaking journey along with great evaluators and those who will hold us to account for timings and good use of language.

Not to mention some fun Back to School themed impromptu speaking.

There is something about a Toastmasters meeting.

An hour before the meeting, you have a prepared speech to give. You wonder, have I prepared enough? What if I forget my words?And then the nervousness starts to set in.

You arrive at the meeting to a warm welcome. Lots of friendly faces are there to support and encourage you. The butterflies in your stomach are still there, but they’ve calmed down. Nervousness starts to make way for determination.

Then the meeting is over.

You’ve given your speech, received feedback, and the hard part is done.

You leave with a sense of pride. You’ve done it. You’ve overcome your fear, shared your message, and perhaps surprised yourself along the way.

And already, you’re thinking about your next speech.

You know that amazing feeling will eventually subside… and you can’t wait to experience it all over again.

Come along to Voice of Wales Speakers Club on the 27th August. See our prepared speakers in action, meet some friendly faces, and maybe even have a go at a short 1–2 minute impromptu speech yourself.

It was another warm evening on Thursday and we continued that theme providing a warm encouraging environment for all speakers who took part, providing encouragement and feedback and a lot of laughs along the way.

Well done to all speakers who should a great variety, talking about the effect of AI on our daily lives, a boat trip to remembered and the planning of a corporate away day, these speeches spanned levels 1,3 and 5 of our educational program highlighting the skills required as our members grow. Congratulations to Alan, a recent member for winning best speech, giving a great display of both information and humour.

Our evaluators provided some well received feedback to all speakers so much so that two of our Evaluators, Helyn and Christopher shared the prize of Best Evaluator. Well done both.

And what can be said about our Impromptu Table Topics. A masterclass in active listening from Leti, showing great skill in the active listening and responding to each topic, this is another skill that Toastmasters provides outside of the standard speech preparation.

Our topics all centered around This or That, what if you could choose another path or how could you look at a problem differently. All received great feedback from John who found points for improvement difficult but showed that no matter how difficult a little something could be found for everyone. Congratulations to Ryan on winning best Impromptu speaker.

A fantastic meeting and we now look forward to the next on the 27th August. We hope to see you there.

Ryan has been with us for three years, developing from an anxious speaker into someone who delivers speeches at other clubs, delivers training and seeks out opportunities at work.

Voice of Wales Speakers have supported Ryan through his journey, building skills in prepared and impromptu speaking, giving feedback every step of the way.

We aren’t just a club, we are a community providing a safe space to practice and learn.

We are incredibly proud of our member and past president Sue Hollingshead for this amazing achievement. Voice of Wales are lucky to have you as a member and we are sure you'll achieve great things at Newent and District Rotary Club.

Sue Hollingshead has been elected as the first female President in the 48-year history of Newent and District Rotary Club.

Applause took over the Sessions House halls this week as we had much to celebrate.

Best Speaker awards were issued to Helyn Ashford (Speaker), Rick Cooper (Evaluator) and Christopher Robertson (Tabletopics Speaker). A fantastic achievement for all and something we all aspire to reach as members.

Matt Wood received his long awaited Pin for being our Vice President Membership, overseeing a period of growth for the club as we welcome many new members who add their own experiences for us to learn from as they grow into accomplished speakers.

We also had two Ice Breaker speeches as Helyn and Wil introduced themselves to the club with their very first speeches. Both did a great job of provided great insights and we look forward to seeing more of them at Voice of Wales, a fun journey ahead indeed.

As always everyone pulled together to provide brilliant speeches, impromptu and prepared whilst others filled the roles that keep the meeting running smoothly and give us all much needed feedback on important aspects such as language and those dreaded umms and ahhs.
