🧡🩶 That's a Wrap for Another Fantastic Year! 🩶🧡

As another successful school year comes to a close, we'd like to thank all of our students, parents, carers and staff for their hard work, commitment and support throughout the year.

We've celebrated so many achievements, created lasting memories and watched our students grow in confidence, resilience and ambition. We are incredibly proud of everything they have accomplished.

We hope all of our families have a safe, relaxing and enjoyable summer break. Whether you're travelling, spending time with family and friends or simply taking the opportunity to recharge, we wish you a wonderful holiday.

💙 Supporting Our Students' Wellbeing 💙

School can be an exciting place to learn and grow, but for some young people it can also bring feelings of worry or anxiety.

Understanding the school anxiety cycle can help parents, carers and schools work together to recognise the signs, provide reassurance and build confidence. Small, consistent steps and open communication can make a real difference.

If your child is experiencing anxiety about school, please remember that you are not alone. Our staff are here to work in partnership with families to ensure every student feels supported, safe and able to succeed.

🏅 Sports Day Reminder – Tomorrow 🏅

A reminder that tomorrow is Sports Day at Durham Academy.

All students should attend school wearing their Durham Academy PE kit and come prepared for a full day of activities.

Students will be given:
✅ Their event
✅ Their start time
✅ Details of where they need to go

This information will be shared with students tomorrow.

Please also remember to bring a water bottle and any suitable sun protection required for the weather.

🇬🇧 London & Stratford Residential Trip 2027 🇬🇧

We're delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for our current Year 7 and Year 8 students to take part in an unforgettable 3-day residential trip to London and Stratford-upon-Avon next summer!

Students will have the chance to:
🎭 Experience the world-famous West End
🏛️ Explore London's iconic landmarks and attractions
📚 Visit Shakespeare's Birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon
🎭 Enjoy a visit to The Globe Theatre (performance subject to availability)
🛏️ Stay for 2 nights with travel included

📅 23rd – 25th June 2027

Parents and carers who would like their child to be considered for the trip are invited to complete the Google Form that has been sent via our usual communication channels.

⚠️ Places are limited to 44 students and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. We encourage families to complete the expression of interest form as soon as possible.

💳 Please note: This is currently an expression of interest only. No money is due before the six-week summer holiday.

We can't wait to offer our students this incredible opportunity to explore literature, history, theatre and our capital city! 🇬🇧✨

☀️ Warm Weather Update – Friday ☀️

Due to the continued hot weather forecast, students are again welcome to attend school on Friday wearing Durham Academy PE kit (or plain, non-branded PE clothing, in line with our previous guidance).

To help everyone stay safe and comfortable, please ensure students:
💧 Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.
🧴 Apply sun cream before coming to school and, where possible, bring some for reapplication during the day.

We will continue to monitor the weather conditions and provide any further updates if required.

👷‍♀️ Girls into Construction – Summer Opportunity! 👷‍♀️

Are you a Year 9 or Year 10 student interested in learning new skills and exploring a career in construction?

This Fun & Food Summer Activity Programme offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a range of construction trades while meeting industry professionals and making new friends.

🏃‍♀️ This Week in PE 🏃‍♀️

It has been another fantastic week of sport at Durham Academy!

Our students recently travelled to Shildon Athletics Track, where they represented the school with enthusiasm, determination and outstanding sportsmanship across a range of athletics events.

We are especially proud of some brilliant individual achievements:
🥇 Olivia W – Gold Medal in Shot Put
🥈 Gleb A – Silver Medal in Shot Put
🥉 Harvey C – Bronze Medal in Javelin

A huge congratulations to all of our athletes for their effort, commitment and the way they represented Durham Academy.

On Wednesday, we were also delighted to welcome our Year 5 students for their Transition Day. They embraced every challenge with confidence, ambition and a fantastic attitude, enjoying lessons in PE, Music, Design & Technology and Art. It was wonderful to see them engaging so positively with both staff and students, and we look forward to welcoming them back in September.

Looking Ahead...

Next week promises to be another exciting one as we host our Year 7 & 8 Tennis Festival and celebrate student success at the ALP Sports Celebration Event.
