🐴✂️ TOP TIP TUESDAY : WHY IS CLIPPING YOUR HORSE IMPORTANT IN WINTER? ❄️
As the colder weather approaches, many horses begin to grow thick winter coats. While this is completely natural, clipping can be beneficial for certain horses, particularly those in regular work!
Here’s why clipping may be helpful 👇
🐎 1. Helps prevent overheating
Horses in regular work can become very warm under a thick winter coat. Clipping helps them lose excess heat more easily during exercise.
💦 2. Reduces sweating
A thick coat can make horses sweat heavily, even during light exercise. Clipping can help reduce sweating and make it easier for horses to stay comfortable.
🧼 3. Makes drying off easier
A clipped horse will generally dry much quicker after exercise, reducing the time they spend standing around with a damp coat.
❤️ 4. Improves comfort during work
For horses in regular schooling, jumping or competition work, clipping can help them feel more comfortable and make managing their workload easier.
🧥 BUT REMEMBER — CLIPPING MEANS EXTRA CARE!
Once clipped, horses lose some of their natural insulation, so it is essential to manage their rugs carefully.
✅ Use appropriate rugs depending on the horse, temperature, weather conditions and whether they are stabled or turned out.
✅ Ensure your horse has access to shelter and is kept comfortable.
✅ Check regularly for signs of being too hot or too cold.
✅ Remember that every horse is different. Some horses do perfectly well without being clipped!
⚠️ Clipping isn't necessary for every horse. It should be based on the horse's workload, coat, health and individual needs. Always ensure the horse is suitably rugged and cared for after clipping.
💙 At Manchester Equestrian, our horses' welfare always comes first! Good management, appropriate exercise and individual care help keep our horses and ponies happy, healthy and comfortable throughout the winter months. 🐴❄️

🐴💙 MANCHESTER EQUESTRIAN – VOLUNTEER TRAINING DAY! 💙🐴

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be holding a Volunteer Training Day on Saturday 17th at 09:00! 🐎👏

This is a great opportunity for riders who are interested in becoming part of our volunteer team to learn more about helping around the yard, supporting our horses and ponies, and assisting with the day-to-day running of our riding school.

📅 Date: Saturday 17th
⏰ Time: 09:00
💷 Cost: £15 per rider

⚠️ PLEASE READ THE REQUIREMENTS CAREFULLY!

To attend the training day, riders MUST:

✅ Be 12 years or older
✅ Currently have at least one riding lesson per week with Manchester Equestrian
✅ Be able to ride confidently and independently in walk and trot

📢 IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL CURRENT HELPERS: All existing helpers MUST attend this training day. Please make sure you are available.

We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone, developing your skills, and continuing to build a fantastic team of dedicated volunteers who put our horses, ponies and riders first. 💙

Did you know? Horses naturally grow a thicker winter coat to help keep themselves warm! Their coat traps warm air close to the skin, acting like a natural duvet. 🥰

🧥 Top tip: More rugs doesn’t always mean more warmth! Over-rugging can cause a horse to become too hot, sweaty and uncomfortable.

Always consider your horse’s:
🐴 Coat — clipped or unclipped
🌡️ Temperature
🌧️ Rain & wind
🏠 Stabled or turned out
💪 Body condition, age and individual needs

A good rule of thumb: check underneath the rug! Your horse should feel comfortably warm and dry — not cold, sweaty or hot. ❤️

Every horse is different, so rug according to the individual rather than simply the temperature! 🐎❄️

🏃‍♂️ Manchester Half Marathon – Plan Ahead! 🏃‍♂️

With the Manchester Marathon taking place, there will be plenty of activity across the area, including busy roads, diversions and road closures.

If you’re heading to Manchester Equestrian Riding Centre on marathon day, please plan your journey in advance and allow extra time for your travel 🚗🐴

🚙 Local traffic and road restrictions may affect your journey to and from the riding centre.

📍 Please check your route before setting off, allow plenty of extra time, and don’t leave it until the last minute!
