Accessibil-IT UK is a digital technology service based in Merseyside, offering advice, information and support, to help you feel more confident using technology. Using digital technology can be very challenging at times, especially when living with sight loss! Digital technology has evolved over recent years, with mobile devices becoming a major part of every day life. Our dedicated, professional

and friendly IT tutor, Paul, who has over 13 years experience teaching and supporting people with sight loss can help you use the accessibility features built into Apple and Android devices confidently. We also have step by step training available on how to use apps and tailor training to you specific needs. Paul has also acquired vast knowledge of using Access Technology software over the years, including JAWS, ZoomText, Supernova, Dolphin Guide, Windows Magnifier and Narrator. Our 'Splash the Light Fantastic’ project really was FANTASTIC!! Project partners Bootle Canoe & Outdoor Club CIC delivered paddle/litter picking sessions, to our local community, including many visually impaired people, to encourage environmental awareness and engage them with the natural world on their doorstep.
Craft sessions were led by Start Creative CIC with Galloways and Bradbury Fields visually impaired groups making a flotilla of lanterns for the project celebration..
The project was led by SAFE with support from the Groundswell Innovation fund and The National Lottery Community Fund
The project finale in October was the 'Canal of Light' event, co-designed with the Canal & River Trust, where illuminated rafts took to the water, led by a life size dragon pulling a flotilla of lanterns! Over 400 people joined in the fun, walking the towpath with lanterns, accompanied by atmospheric music including a rousing send-off from the Lock & Quay Community Pub resident sea shanty group!
The project brought so many people together who would ordinarily never have met and everyone felt the joy! Lasting collaborations have evolved with more opportunities to work together being discussed.
