As the first half of the autumn term draws to a close, we caught up with a few of our brand new Year 7 pupils to find out how they have found their first few weeks at Uppingham.

From maths to art, sport to science, they have had a thoroughly enjoyable start to their time at Uppingham. This is just a short snippet of what they shared, and we look forward to sharing more of their insights after half term.

We are delighted to have won the Independent School of the Year Award for Sporting Achievement 2026.

This award recognises the sporting culture that sits at the heart of Uppingham: one that combines excellence and ambition with participation, enjoyment and community. From The Routh to packed touchlines and daily training sessions, sport brings our School together and provides opportunities for every pupil to challenge themselves, grow in confidence and discover their strengths.
While this is a sporting award, it is really a recognition of the people who make sport at Uppingham possible every day: our pupils, coaches, staff, parents, supporters and Old Uppinghamians.

A fantastic achievement for the whole Uppingham community.

Congratulations, and thank you, to everyone who has played a part.

We are delighted to announce the Villiers Quartet as Artists in Residence at Uppingham School.

Hailed as “Champions of British Music” (The Observer), the Villiers Quartet has become one of the most recognised quartets in the UK for the performance of British music. The Villiers Quartet is also the Quartet-in-Residence at the Jacqueline Du Pré Music Building at Oxford University, and has been praised for “exquisite ensemble playing” (Seen & Heard International), and their absolute “commitment and virtuosity” (The Sunday Times).

The Villiers Quartet will be involved in a range of exciting musical projects at Uppingham through the year, including concerts, masterclasses, teaching and coaching, with pupils across the school benefitting from their extraordinary expertise and musicianship.

It is easy for us to see why Uppingham should be considered among the very best. Every day, we witness the determination, feel the energy, and hear the laughter and joy that make this community so special.

But to be nominated by the votes of our wider community, and recognised nationally by Tatler Schools Guide and shortlisted for Best Public School, is a tremendous honour.

From all of us at Uppingham, to all of you who support, champion and believe in the School - thank you.

A community across the globe ✈️

Throughout this month, our Admissions, OU and Foundation teams alongside academic members of staff have been heading out across the world to see members of our community a little further from Rutland.

From meeting with prospective and current families, to reuniting at Old Uppinghamian events, there have been plenty of wonderful opportunities so far, with Bermuda as a final stop on the way back to Uppingham before the first month of the academic year draws to a close.
