🎹 OU Spotlight

Rupert Egerton-Smith (M 86) will be performing a recital at Ladbroke Hall, London, on 29 September, marking the release of his new recording, Water & Fire, which was recorded in Uppingham's Memorial Hall during summer 2025.

Recently appointed a Steinway Artist, a prestigious recognition of his outstanding musicianship and achievement,, Rupert has been described by the New York Concert Review as a "pianist and musician of the highest calibre" with "electrifying energy".

If you're based in or around London, this promises to be a wonderful opportunity to support a fellow OU and enjoy an evening of exceptional music.

🏏📚 OUs with a love of cricket may enjoy reading ‘Writers in Whites: How a Group of Literary Cricketers Changed English Culture’, a new book by historian Ollie Randall.

One of its central figures is E.W. Hornung (C 1880), creator of the gentleman thief Raffles and one of Uppingham's most celebrated literary alumni, featured in Issue 52 of the OU magazine.

The book explores a remarkable network of cricket-playing authors, including Arthur Conan Doyle, J.M. Barrie, P.G. Wodehouse, Evelyn Waugh and Michael Morpurgo, and reveals how their shared love of cricket shaped their careers and writing.

📣 A big night for OU Rugby 🏉

OUs will face Old Etonians in a special one-off fixture at Rosslyn Park on Friday 6 November. The evening promises an exciting contest and a memorable occasion for players and spectators alike.

We'd love to see the OU community out in force to support the team as they take to the field under the floodlights.

✨ Investing in Early Career Success ✨

The first year in work is one of the hardest transitions a young person makes, and for graduates joining smaller businesses without a formal graduate scheme, it's often navigated with very little support.

Anna Champion (née Roberts, L 95) offers a 12-month coaching and development programme designed to change that, giving graduates structured 1:1 coaching, skills development, and a peer community as they start out. Parents can sponsor their own graduate through the programme, and business owners can enrol graduates they've hired, giving early-career support without needing to build an internal L&D function.
