🎓 Alumni Spotlight: Mushahair Rahman

From studying Law, Politics and Economics at Luton Sixth Form College to advising one of the UK's largest hospitality companies on data protection law, Mushahair's career journey is a great example of how opportunities can lead you down unexpected paths.

After leaving LSFC in 2013, Mushahair went on to study Law at the University of Bristol with ambitions of joining a city law firm. Along the way, he discovered a passion for data protection and has since built a successful career in the field. Today, he works as a Data Protection Specialist at Whitbread PLC, advising the organisation on compliance with data protection legislation.

Looking back on his time at LSFC, Mushahair credits the college with helping shape who he is today. He particularly remembers the support and inspiration he received from Politics and Law teacher Steve Coghlan, whose encouragement played an important role during his studies.
Mushahair's achievements have been amazing and really showcase the diverse career paths our alumni go on to pursue after LSFC.

🎓 Alumni Spotlight: Joe Pratt

Since leaving Luton Sixth Form College in 2019, Joe has built an impressive career in the energy industry and now works as an Energy Assessor, specialising in energy calculations for new-build homes.

After studying A Level Geography, BTEC Business and BTEC Enterprise & Entrepreneurship at LSFC, Joe progressed to the University of Brighton, graduating with First Class Honours in Geography with Remote Sensing & GIS. Thanks to a placement year during his degree, he gained valuable industry experience that helped him move straight into employment after graduation.

Looking back, Joe credits the support and encouragement of his teachers for helping shape his future. He especially thanks Simona Fitton, whose passion for Geography inspired him to pursue the subject further, as well as Femy Lester and Denise Pointer for their guidance, motivation and career advice throughout his time at college.

Joe's advice to current students? Think carefully about your next steps and look for opportunities to gain real-world experience alongside your studies. A placement year can make a huge difference when it comes to starting your career.

Two major awards by age 24, and a journey defined by strength, service and heart

Sanaa Kiani studied Biomedical Science at Luton Sixth Form College between 2017 and 2019. Today, she’s an award‑winning advocate for her community, recognised twice at the Women of Inspiration Awards before the age of 25.

Sanaa was Highly Commended in the 2025 People’s Choice Award, and went on to win the 2026 Adult Achiever Award, celebrating her outstanding impact across Bedfordshire. Her work spans family law, community support, youth development and charity fundraising, all driven by compassion and a deep commitment to helping those who need it most.

Now working as a Family and Children Law Caseworker, Sanaa supports vulnerable families through complex legal challenges. Outside of work, she dedicates her time to charitable projects for marginalised communities, including young people, asylum seekers and families facing poverty or instability.

Her journey since LSFC has been remarkable. She completed a BSc (Hons) in Forensic Psychology while working at LSFC for four years across Safeguarding, Wellbeing, Behaviour Management and as a Progress Coach. She then completed her MA in Law while transitioning into work as an Immigration Law Paralegal, balancing full‑time study, multiple jobs and community work with determination and purpose.

Sanaa has also taken part in several charity events, including running the 2024 and 2025 Luton RunFest in memory of her late brother, Aadam Khan Kiani. Her fundraising efforts honour his legacy while supporting causes close to her heart.

Reflecting on her time at LSFC, Sanaa says she arrived lacking confidence and unsure of her ability to achieve at the level she hoped for. But LSFC helped her recognise her strengths, especially her ability to support others. Events like the annual Choices Fair played a key role, giving her the chance to learn from those who had walked the path before her and showing her what was possible with hard work and persistence.

Her advice to current students is powerful:

Success doesn’t come from complacency. Sanaa went from struggling with grades to earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, winning awards and building a meaningful career, all through consistency, gratitude and sheer determination. She encourages students to make themselves proud, honour the opportunities they have and recognise the people who supported them along the way. Then, she says, use that support as fuel to build a life defined by kindness, purpose and drive.
