Compass Massage & Motion Manual Therapy and Pilates in North Devon and online

www.compassmassage.co.uk

My approach to helping clients focuses on relieving discomfort and restoring balance within the body. Each session is intuitively guided and tailored to meet the unique needs of the individual, recognizing that the body is constantly changing. This dynamic process evolves with each treatment, ensuring that each session remains relevant and responsive to the body's needs. My early career as a dancer sparked an interest in the moving body, which naturally transitioned into massage, soft tissue therapy, and Pilates. Over the years, I have honed my skills and developed a broad range of therapeutic techniques, deepening my understanding of the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit. Currently, I reside in the wilds of North Devon working from clinics in Bideford and Barnstaple . Movement continues to play a vital role in my life, and I understand the challenges of returning to a movement practice after a period of inactivity. To further support my clients, I also offer mat-based Pilates sessions as a BASI-trained instructor. I am currently training with Karin Gurtner in FAMO fascia movement, integrating this approach into my classes and sessions to provide an even more holistic movement experience. I am passionate about enhancing well-being through bodywork, massage, and nature-based practices, and I am committed to contributing to your wellness journey.

If you've been thinking about trying Pilates but haven't quite taken the plunge, this is a great time to start.
A new 8-week term begins on Thursday 22nd October at 6pm at Kingsley School, running right up to Christmas.
It's a lovely group, and I've seen so many people come along, build strength and find new ways of moving. We work through the fundamentals of mat Pilates, so you get the support you need to progress at your own pace and gradually build up to moving with more ease and comfort. And we have a lot of fun along the way.
No experience needed. It's a great way to spend those darker evenings, and to head into the festive season feeling stronger and more confident.

The MELT Sessions: 4 weeks Exploring the Body in Motion- Friday 12-1pm- starting 30th Oct at MOVE.Studio Bude

Based on my popular weekly MELT class, this Course takes things a little deeper over four weeks

Each week we'll travel along a different fascial line — the long chains of connective tissue that run through the body like slings, linking muscle to muscle.

These are often where tension quietly
gathers, sometimes far from where you actually feel it.

We'll explore the lines themselves, but
just as much how they feel — and how they can shape not just the body, but how we see and react to the world around us.

Fascia isn't separate from muscle — it's a continuous web running through the whole body, and where it forms long chains, we call them fascial lines. Pull one end and you'll often feel it somewhere else — tight calves showing up as a stiff lower back, say.

This is the FAMO thinking behind the sessions: rather than isolating one muscle, we work the whole line, combining
movement and self-massage so the tissue can soften and reorganise naturally.

Expect a mix of qualities across the four weeks — moments of yielding and surrender, and
moments of dynamic, springy movement. It's less about stretching and more about discovering how tissue shapes the way you move.

Throughout the four weeks you'll start to notice these lines really do cross over and connect with one another — but for focus, we're structuring each week around one specific line at a time, as a way of presenting the body more clearly.

Week 1 — Superficial Back Line

Up the entire back, from soles to scalp. We'll work the feet, backs of the legs and spine —
releasing what gathers there from standing, walking, and holding ourselves upright all day.

Tuesday Night MELT

If you've never tried MELT before, it's a gentle restorative class designed to improve glide through the fascia, hydrate tissues and ease areas of tension that can build up through everyday life.

Using soft massage balls, gentle movement and moments of stillness, we explore ways of creating more space, adaptability and ease within the body. Through a series of self-massage techniques and movement sequences, we encourage tissues to soften, rehydrate and move with greater freedom.

As the body begins to find more ease, mobility and flexibility often emerge naturally as part of the process. Rather than forcing change, we create the conditions for it.

This class can be particularly supportive for those who find it difficult to switch off or whose minds are used to constant stimulation. By working with both stimulation and release, we give the nervous system something to engage with whilst also creating opportunities to slow down, notice and feel more deeply into the body.

If you're curious, come along and give it a try.

If you’re curious about the Pilates system beyond mat work — or you already practice mat Pilates and want to go a little deeper — I’m currently offering discounted 1:1 case study sessions in Exeter while I complete my BASI comprehensive training.

As I work through my studies, I’m gradually building my repertoire on the apparatus: starting with the Reformer, and moving into the wider system, including the Wunda Chair, Cadillac and Tower. These sessions are a chance to explore how the apparatus supports strength, mobility, alignment, and confidence in movement — with plenty of time for individual attention.

If you live in Exeter (or can travel), message me and I’ll send you availability and full info. Spaces are limited.

This is an extended MELT session with live sound bowls played by Jo Hawker, who’ll be playing along with the room and responding to how we move.

We’ll use soft FAMO fascia massage balls and gentle movement sequences to help the body feel more open, mobile, and reset — the kind of class that leaves you feeling lighter without needing to “push”.

Expect slow, guided sequences and a bit of playful dynamic motion on and around the massage balls, all held in a calm soundscape.

We’ll explore a few simple movement qualities:

Yielding: softening and settling

Gliding: moving with more ease

Fluidity: helping the tissues feel juicier and freer

Adaptability: helping your body respond more easily to change

Come and MELT into your weekend.
