Our Autumn Programme 2026 is here! 🎺🥁

What a summer. Our busiest yet, from the Edinburgh International Festival to the Big Beach Busk in Portobello. Now here’s everything we’ve got on between now and December.

Swipe through for the lot. Sign-ups are open now for Band in a Day at Findhorn Bay Arts with Golden Grooves SC and Cuban Big Band Weekender in November. A few more are still to be announced, including the Sunday Get Down, so keep an eye out.

Golden Grooves Street Collective are back at Findhorn Bay Arts Festival! A pop-up band workshop on the Friday, then a high-energy finale performance at Culture Day Forres the next day.

We're teaming up with musicians from Moray Concert Brass , and we're looking for brass players and aspiring drummers to join us. If you fancy a proper go at playing in a big inter-generational band, learning a set of tunes and then performing them to a crowd in Grant Park, there's still time to sign up. Relaxed, friendly and plenty of encouragement.

Friday 25 September, 6pm to 9pm, workshop at St Leonard's Church, Forres.
Saturday 26 September, 12pm to 2pm, warm up and perform at Grant Park.

Free to take part, open to ages 10 and up. Drummers and percussionists of all levels welcome and instruments are provided. Brass players need at least a year of playing and their own instrument. Access needs catered for. Places are limited to 40 brass players and 30 drummers.

It's Bandcamp Friday! Bandcamp waives its cut today, so more of what you spend comes straight to us.

Brass Blast's first EP, Rising Up, is available now on digital and CD. Three tracks recorded by the band at Edinburgh College this spring, with artwork by Brass Blast's young player Mairi Melvin.

Every sale goes back into Brass Blast, our youth street band project in East Edinburgh.

Rising Up is available here:

Thank you for your support.

Our 10 years of Brass Blast series continues! We asked parents, players and our youth volunteers what Brass Blast means to them.

For players, it's about friends, enjoyment and the buzz of being in a band. Rehearsals, gigs, writing their own music - and this year they recorded their first EP.

Ask BB parents & families, and they will tell you how happy they look on stage, how included they feel and how much more confident they are for it.

And our youth volunteers? They want to pass on their knowledge and passion to younger players.

Ten years in, and we're fiercely proud of all these young musicians and the community we've built arouvd Brass Blast🤘🏼🤩

Brass Blast are back for the autumn term, which feels like a good excuse to finally share this great performance from June!

Their version of Sail, live at the Brassed Up Mini Festival at Portobello Town Hall. Led by the young musicians themselves, directed by trumpet player Sam Telford, with an awesome sax solo from Reuben Tamplin.

Sail is on Rising Up, Brass Blast's debut EP, out now on Bandcamp: https://brassblast.bandcamp.com/

Clarinets Wanted!

Got an old clarinet you are no longer using? We'd love to rehome it with a budding young musician!

Brass Blast is a youth project from Oi Musica, working to broaden participation in music across East Edinburgh. We provide instruments, weekly classes and lots of exciting performance opportunities for young people from all backgrounds, aged 9-18.

We work hard to ensure that young people facing barriers to music have the instruments and opportunities that they need to succeed. Many of our current players are using donated instruments, which they can play not only at Brass Blast, but at school and anywhere else they want to make music.

All instruments gratefully received, whether on loan or as a permanent donation to Brass Blast.

Feel free to share the post with your friends in case they might have something for us. And please message us at [email protected] for more information.

Thank you!

This Sunday! There are still spots available for our special Afrocuban Iyesá Drumming and Singing Workshop with Christian Weaver

A whole day of joyful, energising drumming and song from Matanzas, played on traditional hand made drums. The rhythms range from simple to more intricate, so there is something here for everyone, whether you have been playing for years or have never touched a drum. All instruments are provided, and Christian teaches by ear through listening, singing and playing, so there is nothing to prepare.

Christian has been studying and playing this music in Cuba since 1994, and it is a rare chance to learn a tradition that is still fairly unknown outside Matanzas. If you came to the first session there are new parts to get your teeth into, including the cája.
