Retirement…

I never thought I’d be saying it, but I’ve made an incredibly difficult decision to bring my martial arts journey to an end.

For a variety of reasons — however, the main ones being my health and a desire to spend more time with my family and friends.

It's simple really… sometimes we just have to look after ourselves.

If I’m honest, I’m absolutely gutted. I never saw it coming this early. Still, it feels better to step away feeling accomplished.

I first walked into a martial arts class at just 9 years old. Over the past 40 years, I’ve trained in Karate, Boxing, Kung Fu, and predominantly Kickboxing — which has been a huge part of my life for the last 20 years.

There are many personal moments I’ll always cherish, but mainly the bond and friendships formed over many years.

Aside from grading to 4th Degree Black Belt, I'd have to say my greatest achievement has to be teaching countless students at my own school, Humber Martial Arts, and watching them achieve their dreams from learning techniques to receiving belts and trophies.

I’ve had the pleasure of training with and meeting some truly fantastic people within the industry — far too many to name, but I know you know who you are.

I’d like to thank everyone who’s been part of my journey: fellow martial artists, past instructors, my incredible students and thier families, my team of instructors at H.M.A, friends, and my own family.

A special thank you to Joshua Munro for standing by my side during the early kickboxing years, and most of all to my wife, Linda Munro, for her unwavering support, help, and encouragement at H.M.A.

So that’s it. Last one out, switch off the lights, as they say.

Also, Thank you for all your kind words and gifts they're greatly appreciated.

Investing in their activities builds discipline, confidence, respect and lifelong skills. You're not just paying for games, you're supporting their growth and future. ♥️

Some people will say 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲, or that kids lose their free time and struggle to balance school and play. But when you learn how to manage both academics and sports, there’s really nothing to worry about. 😉

What truly concerns me is not the time spent on the field, mats, or ring, but the time wasted endlessly scrolling through social media after school. That’s the real nonsense we should be avoiding. ❌

As parents, we need to think wisely. Are we raising kids who know how to move, lead, and persevere, or just kids who are glued to mobile screens?
