What a strange summer it has been. All summer, our Tai Chi classes are outdoors, which students love, but it's been very wet, then very hot, and on Thursday it was very, very wet.... But these hardy folk from Bournheath Tai Chi were still in class. Now that's commitment!

How about this for a space? Wellingborough Iaido has moved to Rushden (well, it's just down the road really) because of upcoming renovations closing their original home. From 7th September, this will be their training space, at the Rushden Athletic Club. https://lctkd.com/rushden.html

Even when the school holidays started and families started to fill the lower part of Abbey Park in Evesham, Badsey Tai's summer classes in the park stayed down by the river, under the Lime trees. It's a beautiful spot, and the all the kids around seem perfectly happy with the Tai Chi being there. (Thanks to Charlie Prior for the photo.)

On a quiet night at Badsey TKD it turns out that Mr Knight could fit all the students into one photo. As long as they stood on one leg. 👏

Anyone who joins one of our graded arts - TaeKwonDo, Ensodo, Iaido - has the opportunity to become a Black Belt (that's Shodan in Iaido). Our youngest Black Belt (with a TKD Junior Black Belt) was 9, and our oldest to reach the grade was 75. It's an even older age for higher dan grades. We don't encourage people to chase the grade. It takes as long as it takes, and no-one is in a rush. Just to give you a sense of it, on average someone in regular training might achieve it in five years. So, if you start now, who knows where you'll be in five years.

We sometimes refer to TaeKwonDo and SAMA Kickboxing as our "fighting arts" to distinguish them from our Tai Chi and Qigong, where there's no fighting, Bujutsu and Iaido, which have controlled fighting drills but there's no fighting as such, and Ensodo which is a self defence and weapons art with some fighting, but much less. Still we don't want to take away from the fact that TKD in particular is about self development, and much of that is about learning in different ways, often theoretical.

Our thoughts today are with our friend Lyn Delahay and her family. A stalwart of Bromsgrove Tai Chi, and involved in many other classes and events, Lyn passed away recently, and her funeral was today. Rest In Peace Lyn.

A very Happy Birthday to our Director of Education and Training, Mrs Helen M F Hall. Helen has been a key part of LCTKD since the beginning, an IAIMA Fellow and a designer and leader of martial arts teacher training, a top martial arts photographer, the teacher who has taught more TKD Black Belts than anyone else at LCTKD, and despite a harrowing heart condition remains a hugely popular and inspirational teacher of Blockley TKD juniors. Wow. Super Happy Birthday to her.
