Have you ever wondered what does Kojo Karate Kai stand for?
At its heart, Kojo Karate Kai exists for one simple reason:
To provide high-quality martial arts training that is accessible to everyone.
Of course, we teach karate.
We teach self-defence, discipline, confidence, respect, perseverance and resilience. We help children and adults improve their fitness, coordination and overall wellbeing. We provide opportunities to learn, grow and challenge yourself in a supportive environment.
But there is more to Kojo Karate Kai than karate alone.
We are a community club.
We believe no child or adult should miss out on a positive activity simply because of cost. In a time when many families face difficult financial decisions, we have always tried to keep our fees as affordable as possible while still maintaining the quality of our training.
Our Monthly Memberships
• £26 per month – One session per week
• £45 per month – Two sessions per week
• £57 per month – Unlimited training
Compared to paying £10 per session on a pay-as-you-train basis, our memberships offer significant savings.
Example savings based on a typical four-week month:
• One session per week: £40 pay-as-you-train vs £26 membership – Save £14 per month
• Two sessions per week: £80 pay-as-you-train vs £45 membership – Save £35 per month
• Unlimited training: Potential savings increase even further depending on attendance
We also continue to offer a 50% discount for immediate family members because we believe families should be able to train together without excessive financial barriers.
What We Do Not Offer
Unlike some clubs, we do not provide a free karate uniform (gi) when joining, nor do we include belts as part of your membership.
This is a conscious decision.
Many clubs include these items within larger joining packages, sometimes costing £70 or more before training has even begun. While this can appear attractive initially, the costs are often recovered elsewhere through higher fees, grading costs or mandatory purchases.
Instead, we keep our membership fees as low as possible and allow parents and students to purchase uniforms and belts separately when required. This helps us maintain affordable training and keeps costs transparent.
Looking Forward
Our long-term goal has always remained the same.
As the club continues to grow, we hope to one day reduce fees even further. We would much rather see more people benefiting from karate than create unnecessary financial barriers to participation.
Kojo Karate Kai is built on community, development, accessibility and quality training.
Karate for everyone.

Last session of the year. What a year it has been
Watching this club — and more importantly, this community — grow into what it is today has been genuinely rewarding.
This does not happen by chance. It happens because students continue to show up, put in the work, and commit to regular keiko — disciplined practice carried out with intention. It also happens because parents continue to support their children with consistency and belief. Without that commitment from both, this club would not be where it is today. Thank you for that continued support.
I am not the same instructor I was when I first took on this role. With time comes reflection, and with reflection comes adjustment — not in abandoning traditional values or discipline, but in learning how best to pass them on. This process is part of keiko as well; growth is expected, not avoided.
The students, too, are not the same as they were years ago. People grow, circumstances change, and sometimes paths diverge. That is part of any long journey. Not every path is meant to be walked together forever, and that is something to be respected.
For those who remain, the journey continues. Challenges will arise, and the further we go, the more demanding the process can become. But with the right guidance, the right environment, and the right people around us, those challenges become opportunities. This is where real development takes place — not just in technique, but in character.
So once again, thank you all for what you contribute to this club. Your effort, commitment, and support shape what this place is and what it continues to become.
Onwards and upwards to 2026!
