It’s been a busy few weeks, starting a new job, moving premises and prepping for a big day out to London. Much is changing for us here…

We went and did a litter pick with Mel from . Leaving from Slow Circular Earth’s new home of The Ropewalk, Barton to the centre of The Humber Bridge to meet with the students from the Eco School, Penhurst.

We then met with from Now Then Coaching to have a little bit more litter picking fun around

Finished with a little bit of lunch back at Slow Circular Earth’s new headquarters.

We will be looking to get our food and supper clubs up and running again and hosting themed events so please keep an eye out.

Think nourishing food, hearty conversations, connections, plus meaningful and thoughtful action.

Thanks to all that attended our Northern Lincolnshire Food Partnership public meeting today. Great conversations and a real big footstep forward towards some real good change in Northern Lincolnshire. We will be sharing our 10 objectives and commitments and more for how you can get involved.

CAN YOU HELP OUR COMMUNITY?

Our organisation Slow Circular Earth envisions a future where our community works together, rescues surplus food, shares what we have. Helps each other and ultimately lifts each other up. We did plenty of this during one of our Zero Waste style Air Fryer Budget Demos, working in partnership and on behalf of North Lincs Council this morning at our base at Wilderspin National School, Barton-Upon-Humber.

This all occurred less than an hour after we heard from Wilderspin that we need to leave our venue following a pilot within the old cafe servery. We need to be out by the end of September. We are doing great things in Northern Lincolnshire and really want to continue this, but we need your help...

Do you know of a permanent venue or site in North Lincolnshire that we could move too? We need to find somewhere new to base our Zero Waste Community Fridge, Family Food Clubs, Supper Clubs and other food based community ventures. We need a place to call our own and our Community Hub. We are flexible in what this looks like, so any suggestion is worth considering for us. We thank you in advance and a massive bunch of hope to go along with this request.

They say things happen for a reason, although sometimes I am really not convinced that is good enough, although I am awaiting the challenge and the growth that comes from this latest upheaval…

Recently I acquired my most lovely Ford Transit back after a 5 year hiatus, we were so loving having it back in the family, it was fitted with a tow bar for the Zero Waste Café Pop-Up trailer plus it was perfect for not only trips away with the kids but for collecting surplus food for our Zero Waste Community Fridge. So as part of the family and a workhorse too it was the perfect vehicle.

Unfortunately my van was stolen. No reason or rhyme, just gone, taken away from me, from us, and in some way also taken from our community. I am gutted, devastated, distraught and can’t imagine life without it now that is what I have to deal with.

Most of Slow Circular Earth's work is about reaching out and taking the conversations to the community, about me rocking up and doing things, interacting with people. I feel hurt that part of this has been stripped from me without my say so. I feel hurt that I can’t go out and do the things I love, meeting people, rescuing surplus food to feed local people, spreading the eco joy, providing people with spaces to sit and think, most of all I feel numb that my dream has to be put on hold. I now have to figure out another way to do it for now. Until things can be resolved. I am quite good at adapting but this has totally thrown me.

If there is anyone out there that has an hour or two to spare on a Thursday, a sizeable vehicle and the capacity to collect the surplus food from Willerby and deliver to Wilderspin National School, Barton for us on a weekly basis I would be forever grateful.

Corporate Sponsorship Needed

Can you help by donating some money towards our Zero Waste Food Club?

We have just completed a series of four weekly Monday evening Zero Waste Food Club’s for local families at our base at Wilderspin National School. These were funded through Neighbourly Community Fund. We have had such fun over the last four weeks cooking an array of wonderful family food together. Including feasts of Asian fusion, Goulash and a Mexican Fiesta. There is something so wonderful about bringing people together over food. Sharing the preparations, deciding on who does what and making it work even when there are two many chefs.

I have loved working with to present the new style of Zero Waste Food Clubs at Slow Circular Earth’s new base at Wilderspin National School.

These are proving ever popular and we would love to host them every week so we are looking for sponsorship to help us do this.

Our Zero Waste Community Fridge and Café is working hard for this community but I so love it when others give back and the sense of community grows, it makes me smile. On a Friday afternoon there is a sewing group that uses the school room at Wilderspin, its members have become wonderful users of the Zero Waste Community Fridge and we have so much fun. They spend the entire afternoon laughing and smiling and it is so wonderful to be part of.

This last week they began making some Boomerang Bags Barton for us. Reused fabric tote bags that can be used time and time again when visiting the Zero Waste Community Fridge. Saves me buying them and printing them, plus it is a wonderful thing to make and means that if someone comes in without a bag they can go away with a thoughtful handmade bag filled with food and drink.

If you have visited the Zero Waste Community Fridge in the last few weeks you may have come across Monika and Jake, my lovely new friends from a little piece of land d**g some amazing things with wild food.

We are trialling stocking their wild w**d foodstuff within the Zero Waste Community Fridge plus they will be visiting us on Friday 14th June to demonstrate the wonder that is growing all around us within our Wild W**d Supper Club.

In their own words: In response to the tension that exists between the escalating cost-of-living crisis and an emerging foraging `crisis` suggested by conservation and heritage organisations, a little piece of land developed Untamed Food Distribution in 2022.

We provide free packs of wild vegetables, ready prepared with cooking instructions and recipe ideas, to anyone who wants to try an alternative to industrially grown commercial supermarket produce.

All wild vegetables are sourced from the half acre of gardens and copse surrounding our house which have been allowed to revert to natural habitat. We have over a decade of experience in picking, preparing and cooking these wild foods, and want to share the excess we have.

We do not commercialise our wild food activity and provide all food free of charge.
We undertake all work picking, preparing, packing and delivering on a voluntary basis.
For 2024 Untamed Food Distribution expenses are funded by The Pollination Project (USA)
