Maths Tutor - Sharon Wood Maths tuition, one to one only, near Ulverston, Cumbria. For children aged 6 to 13, plus support for older children with Dyscalculia.

I provide online and in person learning sessions for children aged 8-13, helping to build their confidence in maths. The way I plan my sessions allows the children to have many 'little wins'. The work shouldn't be too taxing, thus allowing them to experience success

in maths, fostering a positive attitude towards the subject. I qualified as a Primary Teacher in 1996, specialising in Upper KS2 Maths. I live in Cumbria with my partner Jon, our son Thomas, and our border collies Cap and Pixel. Alongside tutoring through ZoomAlong, I have been a respite carer for children with additional needs for 6 years and am a registered chaperone with Cumbria County Council. I am insured as a tutor, and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

I'm not quite on holiday yet. Safeguarding course completed (lovely that the NSPCC keep it updated); the Maths Anxiety course I did annually is no longer available - so research papers read instead; a new database of learning objectives to keep me on track with the kids' journeys almost complete; and I'm almost caught up with all the wonderful content Dr Alice Earnshaw is publishing!

Lots of the children are drawn to running their hands through the lavender as they come through the gate 🌿, bringing some of the lovely scent in with them 🥰

Unfortunately, 🐝🐝🐝 are just as drawn to this little plant at the moment! Over the summer, when coming up the steps, please could you encourage your children to think twice before touching the lavender? ☺️

🐸 These naughty frogs were hopping all over the 1 - 100 grid today! 🐸

My young tutee's mission? To track them down and work out which numbers they'd landed on. 🐸🔢 A fun way to practise number recognition, counting and problem-solving while keeping learning playful!

Current families will shortly receive an email with a link to a booking calendar so you can reserve your summer sessions.

The top calendar on the link is for 30 minute sessions, and the lower calendar is for 45 minute sessions.

Please make sure you select both the date and the start time. As shown in the image below, the calendar will automatically default to the first available date and time if you don't choose these yourself by clicking on them.

If you're booking a 45 minute session, please ignore the finish time shown! The calendar is set to a default 30 minute slot, and I haven't been able to change that setting. I'll manually confirm the correct finish time when I receive your booking.

During the last week of this term, the children are usually so busy with end of year activities, that I don't invoice for it. So, unless you've a reschedule, your child's last session with me will be next week (Monday 6th to Friday 10th July). Don't forget to book summer sessions if they'd like time in The Hut in the holidays.. details in my pinned post ☀️☺️☀️
