Starting school is a big moment, and many parents wonder what it will feel like for their child.
Will they feel confident and known in their classroom? Will there be space for their curiosity, play, imagination and joy? Will learning feel exciting and something they are part of, not something they are pushed through?

In Reception at Annan, the beginning of school is child-centred; joyful, calm and full of discovery. Children play, create, explore and learn, with ideas growing from experiences.

Strong, caring relationships sit at the heart of the classroom. Teachers know the children, which helps them feel secure, confident and ready to engage fully in a creative curriculum, situated inside and outside of a beautiful Infant House with free flow to the infant garden for woodwork, gardening, building, play.

Visit us during our June Open Week.

Sycamores and Saplings (Reception and Year 1) did not let the windy weather spoil their fun after a planned trip to the Children’s Forest had to be postponed due to a windy weather warning. Instead, the morning was spent carefully designing and crafting wind streamers and kites to test out in the breeze. The children discovered that dancing in the wind is a very fun way to embrace a blustery day.

As a final highlight of their Spring term animal topic, the Oak Trees (Year 2) explored the behaviour and habits of cats with a special visitor called Dylan. They observed how cats move, what they play with, and how they use their claws, using these insights to understand the animals more deeply.

The children then applied what they had noticed, designing and building cat trees from recycled stools, felt, and string. These were donated to a local animal rescue centre which had visited us the week before!
