Yesterday, Year 6 were visited by the police to discuss bullying and learn strategies to help us stand up to bullying, helping to keep ourselves and others safe. The session encouraged thoughtful discussion and gave the children practical advice they can use both in and out of school. We would also like to thank the police for the valuable and important sessions they have delivered throughout the year, supporting our pupils to make safe and responsible choices.

This week in Year 6, we have been using our maths and literacy skills to help us design our very own theme parks. The children had lots of fun planning their attractions, thinking about layouts, and creating exciting designs. It was wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills in action as they brought their ideas to life!

Year 3 worked thoughtfully to plan their own character descriptions of the White Witch. They carefully explored her physical appearance and personality traits, using their observations to create detailed and engaging descriptions.
Brilliant writing Year 3!

Year 3 have worked incredibly hard developing their understanding of hundreds, tens, and ones. They have confidently used place value charts to identify the hundreds digit and explain the value of numbers, showing great effort and progress throughout their learning.

In DT, Year 1 put their taste-testing to good use by making their very own smoothies! We peeled and chopped bananas and strawberries, squeezed fresh oranges to make juice and then blended everything together. The best part was tasting our delicious smoothies! πŸ“πŸŒπŸŠ Well done, Year 1!

This week, Year 4 have been learning about Judaism and how Jewish people try to make the world a better place. We explored the idea of helping others, showing kindness, and giving to those in need. We learned about Tikkun Olam, which means "repairing the world," and how Jewish people work to make a positive difference in their communities. The children enjoyed discussing ways they can help others and make our school and community a better place too. We are proud of their thoughtful ideas and enthusiasm for learning about different beliefs and values.

This week, Year 1 continued our Invasion Games unit in PE with an exciting space adventure! The children became astronauts, Alien Attackers and Galaxy Defenders as they practised keeping the ball close to their feet using soft touches. They worked hard to dribble into space and avoid defenders. It was wonderful to see everyone growing in confidence, showing great teamwork and having lots of fun!

Year 4 have been learning about the White Witch from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The children explored the White Witch's character and discussed how she uses her power to control Narnia. They used descriptive language to write about her appearance, personality, and actions in the story. We were impressed by the children's imaginative ideas and fantastic vocabulary. Well done, Year 4! ❄️

Year 5 took some time to engage in quiet reading last week.
We were sharing books with our partners or getting lost in the world within the pages on our own.
We were all incredibly engaged in our stories and appreciated the stories as they unfolded in front of us.
What a great way to wrap up the afternoon with a good book - the only thing missing was a nice cup of tea! πŸ“šπŸ“–β˜•οΈ

What a brilliant week our Year 6s had while their friends were at Derwent Hill!

From trips to the Winter Gardens and Laser Quest, to cooking, baking, science experiments and helping in Lower School, there has been plenty to keep us busy. We were also proud to represent our school at the Year 6 Leavers’ Celebration at Durham Cathedral.

On Friday they finished the week off with a walk to Ryhope Beach, spotting wildlife and searching for fossils, before a well-deserved meal out. The children have been fantastic throughout and should be very proud of themselves! πŸŒŸπŸ‘
