Great performance by Denise Davies, Sarah Howarth, Tim Howarth and Bob Kelly. And many thanks for the support of Hubert Davies and Gina Kelly, without whom the course couldn't have gone ahead.

We had a lovely time in Tywyn, West Wales, delivering a FAW Initial course. All 12 passed, and we had a fun time, with lots of activities. Tywyn was a bit cold though, with snow across the mountains as we returned to Bristol.

We ran two EFAW courses this week, and for the first time we included tourniquets and haemostatic dressings. Everyone on the courses were also trained in using an AED as part of the CPR process. The courses were a great success and everyone appreciated the extra skills they picked up. Thanks are due to Qualsafe who trained us on using this new First Aid equipment. If everyone starts delivering this training, it will increase the community resilience against major incidents. We used a CAT (Combat Application Tourniquet), a MAT (Mechanical Advantage Tourniquet), a SOF-T (Special Operations Forces - Tactical) tourniquet and an improvised tourniquet. The packing of a deep wound was demonstrated on a block of foam, using a crepe bandage that was reduced in size to simulate a haemostatic dressing.

We have two EFAW open courses running in Almondsbury. The courses are for one day and cost £75 per person. The dates are:
8th June 2016
7th July 2016
Please contact us if you would like to reserve a place.

We now have a First Aid needs calculator on our home page. It asks a few questions about the number of employees you have, type of work performed and similar things. The result is a PDF that is emailed to you detailing the level of training recommended and other suggestions. Why not give it a go!
