I’ve been finding myself thinking about the news of tWitch a lot and not really knowing how to process it. This post puts some of what I feel into words. People can be masters of hiding how they are really feeling. The more we make our mental health part of our everyday conversation, the more likely someone will feel able to share their true thoughts with us. Let’s not assume, let’s ask!

I’m still processing.

I did not know tWitch, yet his passing lingers for me. I think what has me trippin is he was always smiling so big, so full of life….creating a Tik Tok dance video just a few days ago!

And it scares me….scares and confuses me to be starkly reminded that someone can smile all the way to the darkest place possible.

As Shaun King said in his post, we need to throw away the stereotypes of what someone who is depressed or struggling or even suicidal looks and acts like. They can be sharp, fashionable, fly, with a million dollar smile. ⁣

And we should operate under the assumption that EVERYBODY around us is struggling with SOMETHING. ⁣

Ticking off my 5 ways to well-being to chase away
1) connect with others and 2)being active was achieved walking with a friend this am. 3)giving- delivering a birthday present and a very late Christmas gift 4) pay attention- this is where the photo comes in- we have this amazing plant called Sarcococca by our front door and it gives off the most amazing scent. The scent plus being soaked in sunshine made me smile. Now working on 5) learn something new- got my study books out and ready to go!
What are you doing today to keep the blues away?

Hello. It’s World Mental Health Day today.

Photos from Ali Levell First Aid's post 09/10/2021

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day. Everyone has mental health, so it’s important we know how to stay in good mental health. Taking time each week to spend an hour doing something just for yourself, will increase your wellbeing. It doesn’t have to be anything amazing, a bath, a walk, reading a book, it just has to be something that restores you. For me, a walk on the coast is nature’s medicine. What could you do, to increase your mental wellbeing?

Great use of bystanders when performing CPR seen by team as they completed their Emergency First Aid at Work training last week!

Breathing is a natural tranquilliser for the nervous system. If you are feeling stressed or anxious, take a moment to just breathe.
Try this…
Sit or lie comfortably and close your eyes. Take a slow, long, deep breathe in through your nose- feel your ribs expand, and hold for 5 seconds. Slowly release the breath through your mouth, emptying your lungs and hold for another 5 seconds before starting again.
Repeat until you feel a sense of calm.

At the end of I think this piece says it all. We have this hanging in our downstairs loo to remind us and our guests that one of the bravest things we can do, is ask for help. My hope is, as we raise awareness, mental health will become part of our everyday conversation and that it will become so much easier to say ‘help!’ Let’s keep the conversation going!
