A one-off beginner piano lesson for children aged 6–11, designed to give them a fun introduction to learning the piano. No previous experience is required. Perfect for children who are curious about music and would like to try piano before committing to regular lessons.

Your 50-minute session will include:

Beneath the Tide is a beautiful piece that portrays an underwater scene.
Here are just some of the learning points students cover…..

What is a healthy piano diet? 🤔
🍽️ Just play easy pieces?
🍽️ Just play current reading level pieces?
🍽️ Just play challenging pieces?

Answer: A balanced piano diet includes a mix of all three.

Easy pieces build confidence, fluency, and musical expression. Current-level pieces reinforce developing skills and provide steady progress. Challenging pieces stretch students’ abilities, introduce new concepts, and encourage growth.

Each type of repertoire has an important role to play. Together, they help students become confident, capable, and well-rounded musicians. 🎶✨

⏩Abi learned this quickly as it is below her current reading level.
I am pleased to say there wasn’t much input from me on this and I was absolutely delighted to see Abi transfer previous skills we have done, like the wrist pivots, lifts and arm bounce, to this piece without me asking! 👌

As the younger students make their way through Piano Safari Friends, techniques become combined in the latter units.

In this rote piece ‘Zechariah’s Walk’ Ella shows she can move with ease between two techniques and can alternate between LH and RH.

The fact that she is not having to ‘read’ music notation in this type of piece means that we can focus on technique-how we press the keys.

☝️It is important to lay the foundations of good technique before the ‘reading’ gets too involved.

Rote and pre-stave pieces are an excellent way for a student to experience music which uses the full range of the piano.

Watch Erin do exactly that in this pre-stave piece Fluttering Foliage by Wendy Stevens.

Erin is not held back by reading full notation and is able to focus more on expression, technique and listening.
What Erin does really well here is she tapers the ends of sections and then proceeds onto the next with a wrist lift.
This gives the music breathing points and shows that she has an awareness of the structure of the piece. 👌
