This week has kicked off to a great start with us celebrating the start of the Euros.
The children had the challenge on Monday morning to score a goal past our best
keeper in Little Oaks… and they all SCORED! They really enjoyed practicing their
football skills although I did see far too many hand balls, we let them slide… this
time! This has linked into learning about the England flag and other countries flags,
the children have really enjoyed making them and displaying our giant flag in the
window.
The sports talk continued through the week as the children in big school were
practicing for their Sports Day. Our children were very curious about what they were
doing and enjoyed copying lots of the games in Little Oaks garden. We even set up
our own long jump game and encouraged the children to measure how far they had
jumped in the sand using the numbers.
This week we have also learnt about Eid, the children watched a video and spoke
about how Eid is celebrated. They then enjoyed designing their own Henna patterns
and a lovely tuff tray.
Today is World Music Day. We have been busy making instruments using various
materials, exploring a variety of sounds and songs. The children have really enjoyed
making their own words up to “If you’re happy and you know it” and using the
instruments to sing along.
Along side all of the fun activities above, the children have been playing listening
and attention games, I spy, reading lots of different books and working hard on their
phonics!

What a lovely week we’ve had! The children have been making the most of exploring the garden and the playground this week.
We have been playing pirates in the garden; the children wanted to take the pirate ship in the garden to play walk the plank. They have been enjoying the role play alongside reading lots of different pirate books.
Before the half term, we were learning about life cycles. The children were very excited to see the butterflies, unfortunatley they didn’t wait until after the week break to turn into butterflies! They emmerged and had a couple of days to dry their wings and eat some yummy fruit before they flew off to go and continue their lives and hopefully lay some eggs. We have been looking at pictures of the butterflies and we have been reading the Hungry Caterpillar story. The children have also been painting bow pasta to make some little butterflies that we will put up in Little Oaks next week with some pictures of our butterflies.
The children have had fun in the school role play this week, we have been reading lots of books about going to school and the children have really enjoyed putting on uniform and ‘teaching’ eachother.
They have enjoyed playing with the Poo in the Zoo tuff tray this week. We have explored the tuff tray as well as reading the book and the older children trying to make rhyming words like in the book.
Our Sunflowers have been planted in the garden this week, the children really enjoyed looking at how tall they have all got over the half term and helping to plant them in the garden. Hopefully they will flower soon and your children will be able to show you their lovely sunflowers in the garden.
