Little Dragons got baking today. The children carefully followed the recipe, measuring, mixing, rolling, cutting, and baking.

Everyone’s favourite part was, of course, eating the homemade scones with strawberry jam and cream – delicious!

Otters have enjoyed being builders. Inspired by the builders installing the solar panels, the children enjoyed exploring different textures such as gloop and sand.

They used wheelbarrows to transport the bricks and made towers, knocking them down using our wrecking ball. The children showed perseverance when their towers fell down, working together to build them back up!

Earlier this week it was International dot day, so we were all very creative!

The Squirrels became little artists, creating their own dots using a mixture of neon and shimmery paint. We also stuck different colours of tissue paper, shapes and cellophane, plus some washi tape and glitter!
We think the results are bright and beautiful, and very creative!

Today in Little Dragons we have been using our creative skills to decorate a cover for our quiet area mat.

A big sheet with rainbow arcs drawn on it was painted by the children. The children chose the colours they wanted to use and experimented mixing some of the colours together and painting colours on top of each other, finding new colours were being made. They are very proud of the finished result.

To celebrate International Literacy Day last week, Otters worked on their pre-phonetical awareness, through nursery rhymes and books. We used the book, 'Tanka Tanka Skunk' to help the children break down words into different beats, learning about tempo and rhythm. The children gave this a great go, learning tricky new patterns of sound and they persevered when finding things tricky. We also sang '5 Little Speckled Frogs' in the water tray, linking to other areas of development such as number matching and recognition.

Last week, Badgers made their own tea. They carefully chopped the ingredients and blended them to make spaghettti bolognese. They also made some flatbreads to go with the spaghetti. They rolled the dough and pressed it out before cooking it and putting some garlic butter on the top.

Yesterday, the Badgers enjoyed harvesting potatoes from our allotment. Today, the children helped to wash and clean their potatoes, ready for us to cook them in the oven and enjoy together at snack time.

The children loved being involved from start to finish, from digging up the potatoes to preparing and tasting what they had grown. A lovely way to help them learn where our food comes from and enjoy the experience of growing our own.

Over the last couple of days, Otters have been lucky enough to get out and about. We have been to the Amelia Scott, exploring the world around us. We learnt about our past, digging for artefacts and size ordering relics, through an Archaeology Adventure.

On another adventure, we went to the park, exploring the woods and using our imagination to find 'dinosaurs', working together to lift big branches and using our senses to listen, look and touch!
