This wasn't earned in one evening or by one person.

It was built every time someone gave their despite the nerves.
Every time a member stepped outside their .
Every time someone took on a , delivered an , another member, or simply to support the club.

⏱️ What do you do when you have too much information and not enough time on stage?

Most people speak faster.

That's usually the wrong answer.

When you rush, your audience remembers less, not more.

Instead:
🎯 Decide on the one thing you want people to remember.
✂️ Cut anything that doesn't support it.
🧠 Limit yourself to a few key points.

A great speech isn't about saying everything you know.
It's about making sure people remember what matters.

That's one of the skills we practise at Tunbridge Wells Speakers Club.

Most people finish a project with a tick in a box.

Last meeting, our member Giles Pittman finished a Pathways journey with a song.

After completing his final speech, which was an impromptu speech with the lessons, challenges, growth and discoveries that shaped his , in true Giles fashion, he ended by singing a few verses of "My Way".

It was one of those moments that perfectly captured what is really about.

Yes, we learn how to structure speeches.

Yes, we learn how to speak with .

But somewhere along the way, something deeper happens.

People .
They become standing in front of a room.
They quite so much about getting it perfect and start expressing themselves more authentically.

Watching members grow from into is one of the greatest privileges of being part of a club.

Congratulations, Giles, on completing your Pathways journey 🎉🎉🎉🎉.

And thank you for reminding us that there is more than one way to finish a speech.

Sometimes, you finish it your way.
