Meet Bella – The Heart of Our Business & Family! ❤️🐶

We’re so excited to introduce Bella. At 9 years old, she’s the softest, most emotionally intelligent, and loyal companion you could wish for.

Everyone thinks their dog is the best—but trust us, she really is! 🥰 Bella has been there for us through thick and thin, offering comfort, love, and a calming presence. She has a special way of knowing when someone needs a little extra support, and she’s always ready with a gentle nuzzle or a paw of reassurance.

Therapeutic to stroke, wonderful to be around—Bella isn’t just part of our family, she’s part of our business too, bringing warmth and well-being to everyone she meets.

How Old Does My Child Need to Be for a Dyslexia Assessment?

One of the most common questions we get asked is: “When can my child be assessed?”

✔️ Early intervention assessments from age 5+ can be incredibly insightful, helping to identify key areas of difficulty and providing tailored recommendations to support your child’s learning. These assessments don’t give a formal diagnosis but can ensure the right support is in place early.

✔️ For a formal dyslexia diagnosis, we typically recommend waiting until age 8+ to ensure the most accurate and reliable results. By this stage, a child’s literacy development is more established, making it easier to distinguish dyslexic difficulties from general learning variation.

I’ve been a bit quiet on here recently, and I wanted to share why. A few weeks ago, my wonderful dad passed away. He was not only a fantastic father and mentor, but also my biggest supporter. He believed in me and @elmhurst_education wholeheartedly, always encouraging me every step of the way. Dad was an inspiration in so many ways, dedicating years of his life to charity work- supporting @lordstaverners @dofeuk @lullabytrust, and many others. I can’t begin to express my gratitude to @hospiceintheweald for the incredible care, compassion and dignity they gave Dad in his final days. They are truly angels, and we feel so lucky to have had their support. As I take time to adjust I am reminded of why I started @elmhurst_education - to support children and families, and to create a space where they feel heard and understood. That mission feels even more important now, and I hope we can continue to build a community that does just that . Wrapping up 2024 with a pint of Guinness to celebrate the final dyslexia assessment of the year at . It’s been an incredibly busy six months, but what a rewarding journey it’s been. We’ve been privileged to work with so many wonderful families, children and teenagers - building relationships and hopefully making a real difference ❤️. From bespoke educational assessments to 1:1 parent coaching, supporting neurodiverse children and teens … it has been an honour to support every learner’s unique journey.

🌟 Early Identification is Key! 🌟

When it comes to supporting children with literacy challenges, early identification is crucial. While a formal dyslexia diagnosis is typically recommended after age 8, it’s important to start understanding your child’s learning needs sooner.

For children under 8, we offer bespoke educational assessments — detailed evaluations that can look for signs of dyslexia or other literacy-related challenges and numeracy development. These assessments help pinpoint specific areas of difficulty (as well as strengths!) and provide tailored recommendations to support your child’s development.

The earlier we identify any challenges, the sooner we can offer the right support, helping your child build confidence and thrive academically. 💪📚
