Brittens Music Kindergarten Classes are Colourstrings classes for 0-6 year olds. From the outset, classes build on the innate musicality that every child is born with through enjoyable songs, rhymes, percussion, dances and movement, and listening to the best in classical and folk music. Through carefully structured and progressive sessions, that are age-specific, children are taken on a fun journe

y each week where they develop their sense of pulse, rhythm and pitch in a fun and playful way. Starting Colourstrings classes at a very early age gives babies an excellent start by 'tuning in' their ears to music, building their song and rhyme knowledge through fun repetition and giving them a range of musical experiences that helps them feel comfortable, sociable, and looking forward to the next activity. It's also a lovely calm way to bonding with your child and learning some simple songs that will be easy for them to sing once they find their voices. Continuing with classes as your child grows allows them to develop their understanding of various musical concepts, imbeds a sense of pulse and an ability to sing in tune, develops a sense of rhythm and eventually builds an ability to read notation. This is all achieved through the knowledge of a fabulous set of songs written specifically for Colourstrings. These songs are used throughout the journey, concentrating on pulse and musical concepts in the very early years, and using them to unlock the understanding of rhythm and pitch as they get older. Classes are great for:

•Having lots of fun!

•Developing the bond between parent and baby

•Helping to nurture babies’ developing communication and language skills

•Giving parents more confidence in singing to and with their children

•Improving concentration and memory skills, emotional development, motor skills, social skills, coordination and self confidence

•Exploring the imagination

•Developing the inner ear - the ability to sing in tune and ‘hear’ music written down

•Developing a sense of pulse (keeping the beat)

•Learning about musical concepts unconsciously (such as fast-slow, loud-quiet)

•Reading musical notation (age 3+)

•Improving general ability in literacy, numeracy, language and reasoning

•Preparing children for whatever musical journey they wish to take later on and giving them all the skills they need to start learning an instrument

Dear Colourstrings families. Lessons are back for the summer term - still in the online format for now. We are really happy to let you know however, that we are working on satisfying Health & Safety guidance, so that we can start to make arrangements to run these lessons on a face to face basis again (fingers crossed). Look out for emails from us about registration for these classes going forward, and keep an eye on our website page.

Colourstrings Classes starting up online... Ali Rycroft has been teaching Colourstrings classes for babies and young children since 2010 in Kent, London and New York. She also teaches music in a primary school and piano lessons from home.

For personal reasons I am delaying the start of term for Colourstrings Classes until at least 2 October. Waiting lists will remain operational and I'll be in touch soon to confirm the plans going forward. Emails have been sent to everyone currently on a waiting list explaining the situation.
