As we start to emerge from lockdown, I wanted to make sure I remembered all the things I've learnt from it. The main realisation is how crazily we were running around the place making my stress levels unnecessarily high. I've actually really enjoyed all the girls clubs happening on Zoom, because we don't have to fight our way through the traffic to get there! The peace, quiet roads and family walks have been lovely, as has the time teaching the girls skills not on the home-schooling list - cooking, craft, gardening and nature.

I'm sharing a free printable with you here which I've put together, which has sections on 'What I want to stop' and 'What I want to carry on doing differently'. Those may take a while longer to complete, and you may need to come back and tinker with those subjects a few times. But those are the important ones.

Let's not miss this opportunity to press the reset button.

Love this. Colour and abundance. Colour in schools increasing attendance and making kids feel safer. Colourful offices making people friendlier.

What brings you joy?

‘You can’t give your all to a company if you can’t bring your all to a company.’ And the same is surely true of life. Another facet of the power of authenticity.

Teach girls bravery, not perfection We're raising our girls to be perfect, and we're raising our boys to be brave, says Reshma Saujani, the founder of Girls Who Code. Saujani has taken up the charge to socialize young girls to take risks and learn to program -- two skills they need to move society forward. To truly innovate, we cannot...

Secrets Of A Maya Supermom: What Parenting Books Don't Tell You 13/05/2018

“...the vast majority of studies in psychology, cognitive science and economics — about 96 percent — have been performed on people with European backgrounds. And yet, when scientists perform some of these experiments in other cultures the results often don't match up. Westerners stick out as outliers on the spectrum of behavior, while people from indigenous cultures tend to clump together, more in the middle.”

Talking about how all the parenting guides are wrong. When I did Child Development at uni I thought all the theories were a load of old rubbish too, and I hadn’t even had kids then!

Secrets Of A Maya Supermom: What Parenting Books Don't Tell You Parenting doesn't have to be so stressful. Just ask a Maya mom.

Yes yes yes. Get out there girls. Try, fail, fall in the mud. It's OK. You'll get there in the end.

The happy secret to better work 02/05/2018

‘Normal’ is merely average. If we study what is merely average, we will remain merely average. Instead we should study those outliers that are so way above the curve to glean information so we can move the entire average up.

Shawn Anchor studies the science of happiness. He proposes reversing the formula for happiness, and has found that success at work will not lead to happiness, but happiness will enhance your success.

Also, this talk is funny. Enjoy!

The happy secret to better work We believe we should work hard in order to be happy, but could we be thinking about things backwards? In this fast-moving and very funny talk, psychologist Shawn Achor argues that, actually, happiness inspires us to be more productive.
