This week the children helped put together a display for Lunar and Chinese New Year. They made a tree hung with small citrus fruit (using their fine motor skills to create them from tissue paper and attaching them to the branches), similar to how families decorate in Hong Kong for Chinese New Year. They also traced the name labels to the flags of all the different countries across East and South East Asia that celebrate Lunar New Year and cut out them out. We were really grateful because one family gave us some red packets to show the children! Older relatives give these out to younger ones with money in, usually on the first day of the new Lunar year. The children enjoyed learning how the animals were chosen for their order in the Chinese Zodiac and they all wanted to be born during the year of the dog! It’s been lots of fun exploring this celebration together.

Winter is a magical time of the year, the cold nights short days, where you just want to cosy up with a warm blanket and a nice book. BUT not here at Kinderversity Pembury , we have been looking at the different clothes we wear, how animals cope in the winter, and why the rain turns into ice and snow. We have been out exploring in the snow and ice. When we returned, there was a message from the people and animals that we play with. They were stuck in ice, and we needed to help rescue them. The children read a book about snow animals and then designed and made this amazing display. What a fun 2 weeks we have had in 2023

In the role play area, we have made a fruit and vegetable shop. The children were able to use their shopping baskets and buy items from their shopping lists.
