I saw this on my way to the shops (and back) today and it made me think about the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict.
I have seen posts saying he has got away with murder.
I have seen posts celebrating that he was acquitted.
Each suggesting their view is right and the other is wrong. Is it really as simple as that?
In my experience things rarely are as simple as black and white thinking.
Those who accuse him of being a murderer say that he shouldn’t have travelled across state lines with his weapons. That is possibly true.
Those who are pleased he has been acquitted say that he was attacked and was defending himself against aggressors. That is also possibly true.
The sad truth is if he hadn’t gone there with a weapon he wouldn’t have killed anyone, but that doesn’t automatically mean that was his intention. Also, if the country had protested peacefully and not rioted, nobody would feel the need to arm themselves.
We are all responsible for our own situations. If Kyle had not gone there, he wouldn’t have put himself in a situation where he needed to protect himself.
If his victims had not chased an armed person and knocked him to the ground, they would not have been killed.
I hope that all concerned can learn from this and the US as a country heal. I’m not convinced that will happen though as each side sees their “truth” only.
After all we all have good intentions and are perfect. It’s the others that are wrong, right?
