🇪🇸 Barcelona Trip – Day 1: The Journey Begins! ✈️

After an early start, leaving school at 5am this morning, we made our way to Bristol Airport for our flight to Barcelona El Prat. Once we had collected our bags, we met our reps, who took us to Hostel Pere Tarrés, our home for the trip.

After checking into our rooms and getting settled, we headed across the road to a local shopping centre to explore the area and experience a little of the local culture. 🛍️

Dinner back at the hostel was buffet style, with a selection of salads, rice, calamari, sausages and chips, followed by a lovely variety of sweet puddings. 🍽️

It’s been a very long day for everyone after such an early start, but the children have behaved incredibly well throughout the day, and they should all be very proud of themselves! 👏

Now it’s time for an early night to recharge the batteries, ready for what promises to be a fun-filled Day 2.

⚽ First stop tomorrow… the Nou Camp! 🏟️

We’ll be visiting the home of FC Barcelona, giving everyone the chance to experience one of the most famous football clubs in the world.

A good night’s sleep is definitely needed before another exciting day of exploring Barcelona!

Bring on Day 2! 🇪🇸🙌

🪄 Behind the magic: our incredible set designers and backstage crew! 🎭

The magic of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child doesn’t just happen on stage! ✨

Swipe to see Miss Smith’s original set sketch come to life, from that very first drawing to the finished set. What an incredible transformation!

You’ll also get a glimpse of the technical wizardry behind the Godric’s Hollow scene, where the set is moved to create the magic. We’ve deliberately overexposed this footage to give you a better look at how it works without giving too much away to tonight's audiences..

And take a look at the backstage operation in action: microphones, carefully plotted plans and a brilliantly organised crew working together to make every performance run smoothly. 🎤📋

⚡💡 Behind the magic: Lighting ⚡💡

From the first planning stages to the final rig and 6 curtains up … a huge appreciation post for the incredible lighting team behind Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! 🪄✨

Lighting plays a phenomenal role in bringing the magic, mystery and spectacle of the Wizarding World to life on stage. Every beam, colour, cue and carefully positioned fixture helps create those unforgettable theatrical moments. 🎭

The magic might be on stage, but some of the real wizardry happens behind the scenes! 🖤⚡

Dear Parents/Carers

Richard Lander School is to host a screening of the ‘National Emergency Briefing’. The National Emergency Briefing is the result of leading experts and concerned citizens joining forces to encourage UK decision-makers to step up their response to the escalating climate and nature crisis.

Leading experts have collaborated as they feel it is time for government to give a live emergency briefing on the climate and nature crisis. This new film, presented by Chris Packham, is screening in communities and workplaces across the UK to raise awareness and build public support for a government-led briefing.

All schools within Cornwall declared a Climate Emergency back in 2019, which has informed school policy in directly tackling the issues surrounding the climate and nature crisis. We feel that we can do more to increase awareness within our parent body, so would like to offer a screening at Richard Lander School where we will also have a Climate Science advisor for the United Nations leading a panel of experts for Q and A after the screening. The film itself is 50 minutes, with a short break before a roughly 30 minute Q and A session, with refreshments available on site from our ‘Lander 4 Uganda’ fundraising team.

We are hosting on Friday 23rd October 2026: Doors will open at 5:45pm, with the screening beginning at 6:00pm, finishing around 7:30pm.
