Troon Tae Kwon Do We teach TAGB TaeKwonDo for the people of Troon and surrounding areas Troon TaeKwonDo was founded in September 2017.

Our first week opening we were inundated with students wanting to give this dynamic martial art a try. We now have over 60 registered students that train with us on a regular basis. We are proud members of the TAGB (TaeKwonDo Association of Great Britain). We dont just teach martial arts, we teach, focus, discipline and respect.

Setting the way back clock for... Waaaaaaaay back, on this one. I think this was 12 years or so ago. I remember this was probably the toughest grading prior to black belt.

Well done to everyone who was successfully promoted at the September grading. 100% pass rate again 😊πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

One of the things I get asked a lot... β€œIs my child in for their grading?”

As an instructor, sometimes the answer has to be:

Not at the moment.

So a few weeks ago I was asked by a parent if their child was in for the June grading. This is where parents need to understand that grading is NOT an automatic invite.

Just because a student has been a certain belt for the required amount of time does not automatically mean they are ready for the next one. Consistency plays a massive part.

We need to see them training regularly. We need to see their techniques. We need to see their improvement. We need to see that they remember the current grading syllabus. And most importantly, we need to be confident that they are ready to attempt the grading.

If we haven’t seen a student train for weeks or months, how can we fairly assess whether they’re ready?

Grading isn’t something you are simply due. It is something you work towards and earn.

I completely understand that families have holidays, school breaks and other commitments β€” especially over the summer.

But time away from training still has an impact.

As an instructor my responsibility isn’t to put every student forward because a grading date has arrived. My responsibility is to make sure the student standing in front of the examiner is READY.

Attendance. Consistency. Progress. Readiness.

They ALL matter.

I'm here to help guide and advise any student, and parents, on this. I'm happy to have a chat anytime on how to improve progress and how to ensure consistency over the course of training.

Best wishes to our 9 students who are grading today. Lot of hard work has gone into this. Go smash it! 😊πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

It was very bittersweet in the club last night as we said goodbye (for the moment) to one of our assistant instructors, Isla. She's been a brilliant student and, more recently as an instructor, and we are very proud of the amazing young lady she has become.

All the best for your university course and please come back and see us anytime you're home Isla 😊
